I tried a wash for my first time and don’t think I am getting it quite right.
The surface is airbrushed Hubrol enamel. The wash is artist water colors, an almost black color.
Being my first time, I tried on a couple small parts, the landing gear doors and struts. (It’s a 1/72 WWII Soviet fighter).
I slopped it on, and then wiped off with a damp paper towel, trying to wipe off generally but leave color in the recesses, nooks and crannys.
I mostly succeeded int overall darkening the shade of the entire surface a little bit.
Questions:
Is darkening the overall shade part of the intent of a wash?
Should you wipe off right away, or let it all dry first?
Does it sound like perhaps I don’t have the water color thinned enough?
Perhaps when I am ready to do the entire plane, and have first given it an overall Testors dull coat, that will make for a better surface for the wash?
