I am building my first diorama. It is 1/35 scale german mountain troops and I was wondering is there a good way to create snow? Any help is appreciated.
Here’s the url of a post by renarts about a winter scene including a bit on snow.

Hope this helps a bit.
You could do that or you could try smoothing some celluclay (not sure how to spell it) down letting it dry and then painting it white. It worked for me in my test run with the stuff
Welcome!
Mix some white elmer’s type glue with some water.
Apply wet glue with a stiff brush to the spot you want snow.
Sprinkle baby powder and baking soda over the wet glue.
It will dry rock hard, drybrush or detail as needed.

COOL!!! That even helped me!!! (the post above)
Thanks guys I will give it a try.
I never tried the snow thing but I have seen a couple of real cool ones.
One thing.
Do not forget to put snow on the helmets and shoulders of your figures.
Thats one of those reality things that most people forget when building dios.
You know like those guys that load up an aircraft with bombs and missles then they open all the access panels on the plane.
It dosn’t happen in real life.
(Or)
modeling a plane in flight that dosn’t have a pilot.( a classic at model contests)
Recently I saw a photo in fsm’s reader gallery that could be the worst I ever seen.
A WW-2 dio that depicted a howitzer sitting on the side of a cliff that was only accessable by rope.(So how did the howitzer get their?)
Try to keep these things in mind when building .
Just use common sence and don’t forget the little things.(like fresh fruit in the winter time dio is a dead give away)
I hope this helps and good luck.
The simplest way is to just buy Woodland Scenics’ (model railroad scenery company- should have it at your local hobby shop) Snow 20 oz. Shaker. It sticks pretty easily and I’m pretty sure you can put it on armor over a still-wet flat coat (just get rid of the excess to prevent a mess). It says on the bottle you can create heavy banks of snow if you want to, but I don’t know how. It should work for all scales, unless your building a 1/700 winter harbor scene!
Thanks everyone I used baby powder and baking soda to create the snow soon as I get a chance I will get some pics of it.
