This is the Trumpeter kit in 1/32 scale, built straight from the box. Painted in Alclad polished aluminum, white aluminum and dark aluminum. This model had some fit issues and at it was hard to finish because I got so bored with all the filling, sanding scribing blah blah. It was sucking my will to live!! I won out at the end of the day though and I’m very happy with it. This is my first NMF so that just goes to show you how amazing that stuff is.
Love the finish, she look’s great. I really like the rivet detail too. The only negs I got, the ailerons are anlged a bit too much, and the control yoke is cocked to the wrong side.
I’m sorry, I’m not trying to take away from your thread, the plane is beautiful. But I respectfully disagree, about the yoke. It’s turned to left, the port aileron is up and the starboard one is down, that to me is a roll to the right ( as opposed to a turn) due to the rudder’s being straight. I’m not a pilot though, I could be wrong. And really, I do not want to take away from your beautiful build, good work on the NMF, especially on the first try. I couldnt do it.
No the yoke is correct. The port airleron is up, that deflects the port wing down. Hence a bank, or roll, to the left, which is reflected in the wheel turned left.
Nice work, Max, and good luck with your local contest. [tup] [tup] Max is correct - a yoke to the left will lift the left aileron for a bank to the left.
Max, having that kit as a WIP since 2005, you definately have my respect. Not only did you tackle it (and I can verify the fit issues), you absolutely conquered it with the NMF…that’s the bee’s knees! The shine is enough to drool over…you gotta love Alclad. Seriously Max, that’s an awesome jopb you did. THe kit has some fit issues, but the overall detail OOB is phenominal. My hats off to you, sir.
Nice job on a real crappy kit. I know because I built it last summer. I could not even tell you how many hours I spent sanding the rear of the cowl panels to get them to even come close to the front edge of the wing where they meet. All rivet detail completly wiped out. The enjoyment factor of the kit rated about a 2 on a scale of 1-10 for me. The interior was a big let down in this scale to. very sparse on the detail. That alclad finish is amazing. Well done on a tough kit.
Oh I know guys I’m telling you I almost gave up on that kit a few times but it cost so much money I was too cheap too! The engines into the boomes… terrible fit. The booms to the wings… terrible fit. Every seam I sanded required replacing rivets. Gah!! I didn’t get excited about the kit untill the first coat of Alclad was on it. It was my first Trumpter. Tell me they are not all like that?
Next on the bench is Tamiya 1/32 F-16CJ. I am hoping to find some modeling zen with it.
Yupper, it is… Sorry, Jeremy… The yoke being turned to the left will raise the left aileron/lower the right, thereby dropping the left wing/raising the right for a left bank…
I’ve not built this kit so I am unfamiliar with the kit’s fit issues. But I see no evidence of any fit issues here, whatever they are you have undoubtedly conquered them. Your P-38 is a jaw dropper. She’s absolutely gorgeous. Alclad is the best stuff I’ve seen when done correctly, and you sir, have done everything wonderfully.
