Finished Navy what if asw p-47

Awhile back there was a post about what-if Navy P-47s. Link to thread below:

I decided to go with a bubble top in the atlantic scheme. My hope was that it would be a purely nice, easy, fun build, so I got the 1/72 tamiya kit for it. It was nice, easy, and fun. I had very few problems (which for me, is a big accomplishment). One thing that I did have problems with is the silver paint on the gun barrels. I brush painted them and they came out terrible and not smooth at all. Maybe someday I will try to use a little thinner or something to remove the paint and try again. Also, I will probably try adding antennae wire at some later point.

Anyway, I’m not sure how accurate of an asw it would be, but it was a lot of fun…

Thanks for looking and any comments / suggestions / critisisms are more than welcome. [:)]

Very interesting what-if. I think the paint scheme looks good on her.

Wow, that does look cool!
Great job on an interesting idea!

That jug ROCKS !
Nice interior detail

Chris

Great build, love the camo

Thad

Looks great  perhaps a scratch built or spares arrester hook?

That is an awesome paint scheme. Nice work. Thanks for showing us what you’ve been doing.

A very neat and original build!

Nice job on the Jug. I think that’s about what the Atlantic scheme would have looked like, had it ever existed. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

Cool idea, thanks for the pics…

That is fun. I really think the jug looks good in that scheme. I’d like to see more what-ifs.

Good looking bird you have there.

Hiya Leon,
WOW, fir a “what if” a/c, she sure does look really pretty in that scheme. Overall finish is excellent.
As for the weathering, what method did you use? Again you did a fantastic job on that Jug…

Great looking jug leon. It looks very nice in that scheme. How about one in the pacific tri-colour scheme now? Thanks for sharing.

looks pretty good to me. great work.

Leon, that is a very very nice, clean build!! The detail makes it appear to be a larger scale. Well done, I like it!!! Nice to see a Jug in a different scheme too!

That bird looks great in the Atlantic scheme…like a fat shark! I like it!!

Good what if!

Joe

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful and my favorite scale too. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I really like the Atlantic scheme and should probably get one of the AM Avengers and do it up right.

Awood23, You are right that an arrester hook would help it be more than just a different paint job. Also, depth charges would be really nice, but I admit I am still at the point of just trying to get what is in the box to look nice and am still a little afraid of testing the skills to see if I can create something myself [|)] Someday I’ll get there, though.

Mike, Honestly I did very little weathering. I did pre-shading which IMO did a really nice job of making the finish look a little uneven and used. Then I did some ‘sludge washes’ on certain areas and did very minor silver pencil chipping. Originally I had planned on doing the panel lines with mechanical pencil, but when I got to it, I decided the pre-shading looked good the way it was.

Thanks again everyone for the comments. I really enjoy this site and the skills I pick up from reading everone’s posts.

Hiya Leon.
WOW, you could have fouled me my friend. You did a very good job of preshading…[;)] I should maybe try the preshading thing more often…!!
Thanks for sharing…
