Here it is, my first Diorama. Give me all opinions please, not sure how good that i did. Personally i think that it’s not bad.

Nicely done, Sparky.

This vehicle arrangement is a significant improvement on your first draft! You’ve created a very believable scene of two DAK scout vehicles meeting at a staging area. The tufts of grass add a softeness to the scene and add to the impromptu nature of the meeting

Getting the surface texture right can be a bit challenging with these materials especially when laid on thick and you’re governed by the shape of the brush/tool you’re working with. I haven’t attempted to use the AK Terrains products in this thick of an application before but when I’ve used other mediums like plaster to build up my vignette surface, I’ve found dabbing with paper towel is effective at flattening any ridges caused by your brushes/tools of application. If you’re careful around your grass and vehicles, you might even be able to carefully put another layer over what you have at the moment, dab it flat with paper towel and possibly shape some ruts / tyre tracks from the direction of travel in the process.

Otherwise, great job Sparky! I think you’ve captured a very credible moment in time and space

Looking good. What’s the next one gonna be?

Thank you for your kind words, i tried my best. Dioramas are difficult to build, don’t know if i will try another one.

Don’t know that I will ever try one, but that looks really very good. Nice job! I can certainly appreciate all the work that went into it.

I was scared to try one, i figured give it a shot. Don’t know if i will build another one. Thank you for the kind words

This is where vignettes are great because they put your model in contact with the ground without the technical, financial or time commitment involved with a diorama - The only downside is that while they ground the model, they are predominantly a display tool and don’t have the same power of storytelling that even a basic diorama possesses.

See how you go anyway… I still think your piece is pretty neat… It’s not for everyone but if the bug bites, the potential is limited only by the imagination and the cost of real estate in your neighbourhood

I like it! Your effort really shows, and I do find myself wanting to study close for all the little details.

I also really like your willingness to “go for it” – I still sit here with a half-dozen diorama ideas in my head and none more than 10% started. I just need to go for it.

If you are interested in one thing that would bump it up a serious level, consider squaring off that pink foam base and painting it black. It could likely be done with careful application of a hand saw, or if the models can come off easily, I would consider running it over a tablesaw, if available, which gives an excellent clean and square edge.

Then again, that one rough, broken edge could easily be painted up to look like the drop-off into a rough wadi, maybe hiding a LRDG patrol… here I come with the scope creep again. Never mind!

Thank you, i will see how it goes. I have a couple of civil war models to finish. Maybe they will be my next diorama.

Excellent figure placement with your updated vehicle arrangement. You got over your hesitation/fear and built up a nice scene. Congrats!

Thank you for the encouraging words.

Your setup looks great and I like the scene,it makes sense. The texure of the sand in some places looks creamy, like icing, some suggestions were given already.
My only question is, are you done with the vehicles, figures, and supplies? They could really use some dust, wear and tear, the desert really beats stuff up.That stuff really brings it to the next level.
