Finished Monogram F-82 pics

Hi everyone!

This is the classic Monogram F-82 Twin Mustang in 1/72 scale. It was a fun little build. I didn’t do anything special with it other than drop the flaps. This was just one of those builds where I wanted to sit back and take a breath and have something relaxing to work on.

The fit was great and the build was trouble-free all around. The canopies were kind of on the thick side but not horribly so. Maybe if I big into aftermarket stuff I’d get the vacuformed canopies but there was just one slight problem…I can’t stand vacuformed canopies.

Anyway, I hand painted MM gloss black for a mirror-like finish. The decals reacted wonderfully to Solvaset. After the decals were applied it was time for a gloss overcoat followed by a flat coat. I thought of leaving it glossy as some photos showed but to leave this little kit in its high gloss finish just didn’t seem “right” to me. And this is from a guy who loves gloss black finishes! So I toned it down using MM Dulcote.

Lastly, I picked out some paint chipping using a silver Prismacolor pencil.

Enjoy!

Very nice. I like the clean build. Looks fantastic.

Thank you Scorpio. I’m still praying for the day when a better 1/48 scale kit comes along. Some of these Twin Mustangs really had some great markings on them. It would be great to have several of them sitting on my shelves. I just don’t have the time nor inclination to tackle the current 1/48 offering.

[:D] made me smile liked the pics.

Nice build Eric, came out really nice. BUT…youre not a real modeler until youve built your kits evil big brother...the Modelcraft F-82....still having bad dreams.....LOL! Worst fitting wing-to-fuselage kit Ive ever encountered.

Again, nice job!

Len

Looks great, nice job.

Thank you all for the kind words. Is it my best built? Not exactly but I still like how it turned out considering the age of the kit and the canopies which could have fit better.

Len, I know exactly what you mean and I feel the same way. I’m 40 now and have been building since I was 8 years old. However, I don’t think I’ll truly feel like a good model builder until I have subjected myself to SUCCESSFULLY building the 1/48 scale version. It’s the metaphorical dragon I have to slay before I can truly earn the badge of “model builder”!
