Finished - M60a1 ERA w/Plow - Pictures

Hello all,

I just finished my 1/35 M60a1 Rise/Passive with ERA and Mine Plow. The kit is by Academy. The only significant modifications I did were the scratchbuilt hydaulic gear on the back of the tank and the “safety catch” for the plow. The lousy figures are from the kit and might be replaced one day. The kit was painted and weathered exclusively with Tamiya paints. Any comments are welcomed. Thanks for looking.

Jesse

Yeah Jesse, looks like a good build; I agree with the figures. You ought to attempt some improvement on your facial painting though–that can really “save” even the old Tamiya blobs, if done well enough.

The model itself looks fine, I think the stowage is especially nicely done. I would like to see some more wear on it though; desert conditions seem to really eat up the edges, etc…especially on that dozer blade…you’d never see one that clean in reality. Take a look at some photos of construction vehicles and try to duplicate that.

Beautiful job on the M60! The figures have that old Academy look, don’t they? I have some German figs from Academy with that same facial look, almost like the master molds got damaged or something.

There are lots of better figs out there, that you could replace them with, if you were so inclined. Looks like you did a pretty good job with the cammo on the PASGT vests, though.

I particularly like the shading on the add-on armor panels, and the detail in the plow components. Overall, an excellent job!!!

Excellent work!

It looks really good to me. Great job on the hydraulics unit on the left rear. Did you run the hoses all the way forward under the left side of the hull and back? Looks like it from the routing in the rear. Gotta hate when a model company doesn’t do their homework and leaves crucial parts off.

The blade looks good to me. Remember, these tanks were repainted as they arrived in Saudi Arabia for ODS. They were not really used to push and dirt until the ground war began, hence their blades were clean and well painted.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the replys. The figure’s faces and weathering on the vehicle look better in real than in my pictures. It seems that effects like this can get washed out in photos.

I didn’t run the hoses all of the way to the front. My resources for this plow were really slim. The hydraulics were built completely by “eye-balling” it, so some liberties were taken.

Thanks,

Jesse

Really convincing work. I like the subtle weathering, seems to suit this vehicle.

Fantastic job. I would take the guy in the loaders hatch and paint him as if he were wearing a bandanna on his face! Not a stretch in the desert. makes the most of that horrible molding.

I also like it, and I definately like the hydraulics on the back fender. I attemped the same many years ago on an Israeli M60 with the old Verlinden blade, not as nice as yours. Stowage looks good, too.
