Finished Fokker D.VII

I finished Eduard’s 1/48 Fokker D.VII (Fokk) last night, and waited until this morning to take the pics.

The build is completely out of the box, with the exception of the control cables (fine wire) and rigging (steel wire from a DML Fokker D.VIII). This is one of the nicest kits I’ve ever built, and it has quelled my fear of WW I aircraft. I’m not ready for a D.H.2 at this point, but I’m closer than I was yesterday.

Hope you like it, and thanks for letting me share it with you !

I just received Eduard’s new Fokker E.V yeaterday, and I can’t wait to build it. I’ll also have their Roland C.II next week. Oh boy !

Great job! Like your work with the cockpit and I take it the lozenges are decals? That’s the biggest “fear” I have regarding WWI aircraft - decaling all that space. I have enough difficulties with decaling WWII aircraft…

Thank you Aggieman !

The lozenge is decals. Eduard provides them pre-cut to fit the different areas. It’s really no more difficult than applying regular decals. I just sprayed the bare plastic wings and fuselage with Future first.

Thanks again !

Pix that bird is Beautiful!!! What kind of fine wire did you use and what paints?[wow][tup]

Sweet! Top-notch work as always, pix! [tup]

Pix, you never cease to stun us! Great looking build.

By the way, what is that gage-looking thing on the left wing strut (or whatever you call the wing-to-wing structure)? Kinda looks like it has a spigot handle, like a valve for your garden hose on your house.

Thanks for sharing with us!

Mitch

Overall very beautiful D.VII Pix. You did an awesome job.

Thank you prwam, ruddratt, Mitch, and Sean !

prwam - I used wire that is in a cheap shielded audio (not speaker) cable I got at Radio Shack. You can get a few feet for a few bucks, and it lasts a long time.

Mitch - the gizmo on the right interplane strut is a ballistic speed gauge. The wind spins the “prop” on top, and it registers on the gauge below. No pitot tubes on these crates! It adds a little interest to plain struts, too.

Thanks again ! Now, where did I put that Fokker E.V???

Wonderful work as always. Seeing your list of on deck projects, you’ll be tackling anything with rigging soon. And we look forwrd to seeing it.

I’ve been waiting to see this one done. Outstanding work and a very cool plane![tup]

Thanks cassibill and Wulf !

cassibill - I’m developing a fondness for these WW I flying machines. I have Eduard’s Albatross D.V ProfiPack and Fokker E.V, and their Roland C.!! will be here next week. The shapes, colors, and lozenge patterns are pretty difficult for me to resist !

Wulf - I’ll be building more biplanes, that’s for sure !

Thanks again 1

Beautiful work. Can you please provide the kit number or a source of good 1/48 scale WWI planes. Thank you.

Hard to beat Eduard for WWI subjects in this scale, especially when you consider how well they’re engineered and what extras are included in the box, like all the PE , resin (sometimes), masks, and decal options in the Profi-pack releases. Lot’s of bang for your buck.

which ones do you suggest?

Is this kit number 8131?

Pix built kit #8132, but all the D.VII kits are absolute gems. I’ve built this kit also, and can further vouch for it, as well as their Albatros D.Va Profi-pack and the Roland C.II. In my stash I have another D.VII, a Pfalz D.IIIa, Airco DH.2, Sopwith F.1 Camel, and a Hanriot HD.1. They all are fully loaded with goodies and look to be well-engineered.

Great looking bipe Pix. Very nice work.

I hope the Camel is as nice as that one since I have 2 to build.

Pix,

As usual, you did a magnificent job!

Now you’ve got to do an Allied plane. The DML/Dragon Spad 13 is a pretty classy kit if you can find one. [:)]

Regards,

Great work Pix! I too have this and a couple other Eduards in my stash. I agree, they are top shelf products. I hope mine turns out half as well as yours. Thanks for sharing friend![tup][tup]

As always, Pix, outstanding work on the Fokker! I am curious as to how you did the laminated prop - I would guess masking/painting, but it look SO realistic, how do you do the graining! Thanks for sharing, Bill, outstanding!!!
