Here is my completed Boeing P-12E. The Boeing P-12 was the most important pursuit ship in the USAAC in the Late 20s and the early 30s.
The markings are for the 29th pursuit squadron, 16th pursuit group, Panama Canal Zone ca. 1934.
and next to my 1/48 P-26 peashooter:
The kit was somewhat challenging, as the fit was not the greatest, a “tooling” error that had the interplane struts about 7mm too long had to be cut down! [8o|] and the trailing edge of the upper wing was very thick. I added Brass tubing for blast tubes and for the gunsight. The rigging wires were 0.3mm styrene rod.
Great work on the P-12 Mike! Did you assemble the whole model and mask it or did you add the struts and wires later? Seems like they’d be an incredible pain in the butt to mask around.
I don’t remember if I commented on the B-26 or not but really nice work there too!
Added struts first, then painted wings USAAC Yellow, then masked the wings, then painted Olive Drab with a touch of brown. The maskings was pretty easy, except for the lower wing roots.
Fantastic work especially on the yellow. Looks like you got great coverage without it gettting too thick. Getting Yellow right is always hard for me and it looks like you nailed it! [Y]
I used Polly Scale Orange Yellow FS505220. Sprayed light coats, then gloss, decals, then a coat of satin for the top wing surfaces, gloss for the lower. Also, added some white to the tops to simulate sun fade.
That’s another wonderful Army Yellowwing… Y’know, CA does have their issues with kits, but then again, none of them were ever designed to be Shake & Bakes, an limited-run kit are always that way, regardless of manufacturer, as far as my experience with them goes… You really built an outstanding model of an outstanding “Golden Age” bird…
The P-26 is a beauty too, BTW… Still have that one in the stash…
