Finished 1/48 Airfix Mosquito

Well, I finally finished the Mosquito tonight. In case you haven’t seen the progress pics, they’re here: http://www.pix.prettyneatinc.com/mosquitobuild.htm

This is the 1/48 Airfix Mosquito F.B. VI. I built it using Eduard’s photoetched detail set, Squadron vac canopy, and Eagle Strike decals for an aircraft in the SEAC scheme. I scratchbuilt the wheel wells and the canopy’s internal framing. The kit has raised panel lines, so I used a technical pencil along their edges. I also added hydraulic lines and wiring. This is an under-rated kit, and can be bought for a reasonable price. It was released in 1980.

It was a lot of fun to build !

Thanks for letting me share it with you !

Has to be said - rather nice - however for those of us that appreciate design and colour curiously this scheme is rather delightful - and could easily stand on the mantlepiece or other shelf in the living room for example and “go with it all”. Or have I obscure tastes?? I particularly like the low down shots!!

Another awsome build pix. Id still love to see what you could do with some panel washes and lighter weathering though

Pix, what is the underside color?

Bill,

Nice build! What is a technical pencil? I have some kits in my stash with raised panel lines and would like to give your method a shot.

What?..Great job Bill. another beauty.

Jerry

Great work as usual Pix thanks for sharing

Nice job Pix. The camo looks perfect. And the frame on the canopy came out great. Another great build.

Beautiful job on the build.

Looks great Pix, I love the SEAC camo/markings, I’ve my eye on doing a P-47 in those colours.

JoeRugby, I’ve done the same as pix on the panel lines before but I used a mechanical pencil (one of those you can refill with leads). Make sure you have a soft lead. A Technical pencil is almost the same but it holds a larger single lead.

That’s a snappy Skeeter, Pix!
Superb work, as always.

Excellent build Pix. Always enjoy your modeling skill & great pics. Keep em coming [tup]

Thank you miduppergunner, Awood, Wayne, Joe, Jerry, mkhoot, Sparky, Bryan, Jay, Brian, and Rick !

Awood - my display case will be built as a 1/48 museum. A weathered aircraft would look odd there. Unless it goes on a base or in a dio, I don’t do weathering. I feel that it’s a product of the environment, and a weathered model looks strange to me on a clean shelf.

Wayne - the SEAC (South East Asia Command) scheme is Dark Brown and Dark Green uppers over Medium Sea Gray.

Joe - use the edge of the pencil along the raised lines. Using the tip will cause it to make marks where you don’t want them.

Thanks again !

Nice job Pix, you made a rough kit look like a winner.

Real clean, very nice. What do you use for your antenna wire?

Beautiful model. I am currently battling my way through the old Revell 1/32 F4U Corsair using a Custom Aeronautical Miniatures cockpit detail set. What fun!

Another fantastic build Pix! I’ve enjoyed following this one, thanks for sharing,

Darren.

very nice

Thanks Robert, ModelNerd, seafury, Darren, and DURR !

ModelNerd - I use 2lb. fishing line. It looks just about right to me for this scale.

seafury - welcome to FSM ! I find that the kits needing TLC are more fun than the “fall together” kits. I’d rather do the work myself.

Thanks again !

Pix,

A magnificent build, looks very realistic! What did you mask the greenhouse with? The framing is perfect! Thanks for sharing with us all, you have elevated scale modeling to a new level of art!
