Does anyone know of an online reference for Fine Molds Models instructions sheets? In English?
I recently bought the 1/48th Porco Rosso Savoia S.21F (you know - the flying boat from the Hiyao Miyazaki movie)…and the instructions are in Japanese. It’s a fantastic kit, by the way - I’m impressed.
The color callout index refers to Gunze and Tamiya colors…but it would be nice to have the instructions in English.
Lee - if you Google Fine Molds Porco Rosso, you’ll find plenty of pictures and reviws of the model, in both 1/72 and 1/48, which should be useful constructional aids.
As to the colours, the red, white and green are supposed to match the colours of the Italian national flag, so if you find what you consider to be close matches for these colours in your preferred range(s) you should be doing OK. The interior framework is mostly varnished wood, for which I find a medium brown, such as Humbrol 110, overcoated with a thin coat or two of Tamiya acrylic clear orange, works well.
There are quiet a few kits from Porco Rosso. out there both in 1/72 and 1/48. My Fav is still though his “Bad Guy No.1” Tank by Tasca though.
As for english instructions, no such luck. The Original Fine Models 1/72 X-Wing Instructions were translated but that was done by an online shop out of their own pocket.
The 1/48 Porco Rosso kit is very nice and falls together.
If you guys happen to know of any other Miyazaki kits, from anything, so far I have found some lupin III, and Conan kits (just info, not the kits themselves) I think I wana start collecting/building them.
Well I just paid a pretty penny to get all of the re-releases of the Nausicaa kits from Bandai from HLJ. And I won a Tsukunda 1/6th scale Nausicaa figure kit
The Akuyaku wasn’t in a movie, but in a book by Miyazaki called “Daydreams.” Here’s a link.
It’s a great book; it combines stories that he published in model magazines like Model Grafix. It included the short manga that was the basis for “Kurenai no Buta” (Porco Rosso). I highly recommend the book to anyone!
Lupin the 3rd(TV-Series/Farewell Lupin): the Laputa like Robot with the cockpit in the back(2 resin Kits).
Lupin the 3rd(Cagliostro Castle): Variety of kits and figures(resin)
Laputa: Some kits and a few figure kits.
No Movie; Akuyaku No1.(BAd Guy No.1).
Nausicaa: a few Kits and a few Figure kits.
Porco Rosso: a few Plane kits.
That"s about it when Gibhli started selling merchandise freely they somehow seem to have stopped handing out kit licences. There were a few other kits But those were all metal.
Back to Fine Molds, IIRC most Fine molds SW kits are semi-bilingual calling out colours in english and japanese, etc.
