Finding the right RLM colors

My next model will be my first German plane. I have always wanted to build a Bf 110 in the famous “Wespen Geschwader” scheme from the ZG-1.
I have found a great deal on the Fujimi 1/48 version and hoepfully I can get some advice from you experst out there! (In your defence you steered me the riught way on my last model…an F4F Wildcat. It was by the nicest paint job I’ve done yet!)

My questions:
a. What are the standard RLM colors for the exterior? Are they the RLM 75 and RLM 76 scheme?
b. I believe the interior is RLM 02. Is this correct?
c. Any other hints or tips for building the perfect German warplane?

How is the Fujimi version vs. the Promodeler?
As always, I appreciate your tips, help and advice!

I’m so sorry that I cannot reply the above questions but I known that RLM02 is for interior of Me’s series I’m not sure please wait for the other replies.
But I got them both
The interior of Promodeller (Revell?) is much much better that Fujimi now I still looking for After Market resin cockpit for my Fujimi.
I bought the Fujimi because is cheaper than Promodeller (In Thailand). I got the Promodeller from the Garage sale but it still higher than Fujimi.
Look at this

110Book/rev450.htm
After checked
Bf-110 of Fujimi should be “C” (Series 26 : Box No. 5A26) the interior is RLM02 (I toned down w/ White around 10-20%) The color is RLM74/75 over RLM76 spinner is RLM70 w/ White or Red. Caused of the color pattern of Fujimi have only “name” not have the RLM number.

Depends on the time frame you are modeling, but I think the Fujimi kit is a later version of the 110. Common camo would be RLM 74 & 75 topsides with RLM 76 undersides. Mottle was usually 74/75 & often some RLM 02 or 71 as well. Interior was RLM 66, unless you are doing an early version, which would be RLM 02.

hey mucker;
I read in a thread in this forum a while ago that the Luftwaffe changed interior colors from RLM 02 to RLM 66 around 1942/43 time frame, and the color for the Bf-110 depends on which version and time frame you are doing I believe the Bf-110C/D’s (Fujimi’s) had RLM 02 for the interior color and the Bf-110G’s (ProModeler/Revellograms) had RLM 66 interior color, as for the Exteriors most Luftwaffe colors also changed around that same time frame the early paint scheme was 65 lower and sides with 70/71 uppers, and late was either 74/75/76 or 75/76/83 or 76/81/83 the hard part is which scheme you want to do

THanks everyone. I believe I have enough knowledge now to go out and buy the paint! I need to look at the difference schemes proposed and decide which one is closest to the Wespen GEschwader plans I am envisioning

Man, I haven’t even gotten to post this article to my site yet and everyone seems to need it - try this link and see if it answers your questions. http://swannysmodels.com/Painting.html
The article is not fully complete yet but should take care of your needs.

You can find bellow a color photo

Thank you Swanny.

I’ve got a bone of contention with the standard RLM interior colours offered around the traps. I’ve seen a few Luftwaffe planes & the interior appears to be a dark blue-black, I don’t think it matches the RLM 02 as it has a disctinct blue tinge & it’s definitely not RLM 66, yet no-one ever seems to mention this. I’ve seen this in a 109, 190 & a 163.

You can get an idea of the colour here, this a Bf109-F2 Trop cockpit:

(great site BTW)

That looks like a contrast adjusted picture of RLM-66 to me.

Hey Swanny;
did you post that info awhile back?, because I’ve read it and was trying to remember the dates, I knew it was around 1942 but wasn’t sure, and Nov 1941 is close enough, you should release it to FSM so they will run it in their future issue of the Mag

According to The Official Monogram Painting Guide to German Aircraft (Monogram Aviation Publications), after November 1941 all cockpit areas visible through a glazed covering were to be painted RLM 66. The remainder of the interior, including weapons bays and landing gear housings were RLM 02. Hope this helps.
