Finding a coating for decals applied to plastic ship model to protect them

Model was spray painted with Mr. Color lacquer and a flat color. Decals were water slide and coated with Testors decal set.

I’ve used semi-gloss Mr. Hobby Topcoat with good results, for both spraying DIY decals and spraying them after they’ve been applied to the models. No problems at all.

I like the Alclad Klears, glossy, satin, flat or matte are all available in their line.

I’m afraid that you’re going to get a huge variety of answers since everyone has their go to product. For example, I use Vallejo matt finish clear coat over the decals. I started using it because it was what I had. I keep using it because it works for me. I also use pledge floor wax on the models before I put the decals on. You probably won’t be able to get that anymore unless you have some for your floors.

Whichever product you land on, a clear coat of gloss, matte, or flat is a must to seal up the decals.
