WOOHOOOOOO!!! I finished putting my work area together!!! I’m still organizing a bit, but just little things, and nothing more than what will be an ongoing process anyway. I AM FINALLY READY TO START BUILDING!!! That was a heck of a process, but I’m glad I did it. I learned a LOT. So, without further ado, here’s what I did…

I researched a bunch on lighting, and went with two up-light lamps with 6500k CFL’s that put out about 500 lumens each - not too bright, but very cool and clear light. I have a third with the same bulb on a dresser (not in the picture) behind me. There is also a covered overhead fixture in the room that contains two 3500k CFL’s putting out about 800 lumens each - a little warmer light, and just enough power without being harsh. To complete my task lighting, I strung up an aluminum “brooder” type lamp over the center of my work. In it, I installed an 8.5w (60w incandescent equivalent) LED bulb giving off light at 5000k on the spectrum. All bulbs have a CRI of 80~90. I chose the CFL’s for the ambient lighting because they diffuse light better, and chose the LED for the direct overhead because they focus light better. The lighting is excellent. Nowhere is it harsh or unpleasant, nor is it weak. There are no reflective glares or distracting shadows. The lighting is so clear that I was able to cut back on my requirements for magnification. I was also able to maximize workspace as well. I really did my homework here

That’s a great looking set-up you have there. Congratulations on completion of your first “task”! And I have to tell ya, that is some kinda good lookin’ burger and dog too! Yummmm, I can just taste those bad boys now!![:D[

Thanks guys! I’ll be posting a WIP thread in the Armor section for my M113, probably tomorrow. I already have my first “mod” to do to the booth. I’m going to get another one of the under-cabinet LED strips and run it just up under the top of the opening, so there will be three making a “U”, and I will attach a wood slat in front of it for a reflective and a secondary cosmetic. I also got some new tools that I can’t wait to fire up…

My plan is to use the Paasche H for clears, the Badger 200 for primers and metallics, the M-1 and M-2 for base coats, and the HP-CS for detailing. I also have a Paasche EZ that I used for practice before I got sick, and I plan to use that for testing. I’m going to fire that up tomorrow to get back into the swing of things. I’m freakin’ stoked!!

Oh, and Gary, I’m not gonna lie, that was probably the best hot dog I’ve ever had. All beef in a homemade pretzel bun with some homemade mustard my mom makes that is absolutely unbelievable, and some pico de gallo that she also made that is the best pico I’ve ever had, rivaling the homemade pico my Mexican buddies at work bring in that their wives make. I’m so blessed to have a mother who puts love into everything she does, and has that “mom” touch with cooking, where even when she doesn’t hit a home run it’s still pretty darn good, but when she knocks it out of the park - which is very often - it’s so good it’ll make you cry. And if you ask her how she does it, she couldn’t tell ya

Now that you’ve got things settled how about some WIP photos. LOL! I agree, that bench of your will be the last time you’ll see in a clean state. ROFL!!!

Very nice set up indeed. I bet it feels great to have everything set up and good to go. Don’t know about you, but I’m constantly tweaking and reorganizing my work area. Always finding something I think is better or just want to try something different. Now, it’s time to get that bench all cluttered up. Looking forward to seeing you crank out some sweet builds.

Hey !

My landlady feeds me like that ! I guess that’s why I am now round instead of lean .LOL.LOL. I don’t care , I enjoyed the food vicariously . P.S. are you sure you’ve got enough room ? That looks awful small in area . Remember there are some mighty BIG kits out there ! Tanker - Builder p.p.s. I started that way . Now remember that is the only time you’ll ever see the space that immaculate again ! Suggestion .Go to Home Depot or Lowes and get two desktop OTT lights .Put them in place of the two fine looking lamps you have there .You need the best light you can get , believe me ! Plus the OTT’s will give out pure light so your colors will be easier to work out .

Thanks tanker! I actually got an Ottlite from Michaels, but returned it. It worked great, but I didn’t want to have to put anything so close to my work. I thought about getting a bigger one, they have some on sale at Office Depot that I almost got, but I decided on the up-lights instead. I have 6500k bulbs in them, which are natural daylight bulbs. The color rendering is excellent! I knew I needed a direct light on the bench though, so I got an aluminum work light - a “brooder” type - and have it hanging directly overhead. It has a 5000k LED in it, and it really focuses light on my workspace. The beauty of all this too is that none of it is too harsh, nor are there any distracting reflections and glares, or annoying shadows
