Finally, something from Max's workshop

Well guys, here it is. Revell’s 1/48th Spirit of St. Louis. I bought this puppy soon after it was released at the LHS for something like $12. I started building two days after that. I just now finished[%-)]It went together fairly easy. I changed the deflection of the ailerons and the rudder. I had to add some bits of metal because I’m an oaf and broke some of the fiddly plastic bits. Overall, I’m really not pleased with how this one turned out. I made a lot of errors on the paint. The decals didn’t turn out how I would have liked. It was just a very sloppy job on my part. But I learned a lot of “what not to dos” So I’ll chalk this one up as practice for the real thing. Here’s the pics, folks! Enjoy!

Something you dont see every day… Great work Max… I like it!

Chris

Looks good from here.[;)] Good job![^]

Eddie

Looks good Max, to bad they dont make one of those in 1/32.

I like what I see Max, nice build.

Steve

I don’t see many goofs! Looks good to me. [tup]

Did youPhotoshop the problems out becuase it looks fine to me.

Looks great to me! Very interesting subject.

I like how you off set the ailerons. Gives it a great look.

i dont see the problems. i see a great build.

Nice work, Max, but it must seem strange to work on a kit that is so small [8D] jk! You really did do a nice job making a silk purse from a sow’s ear, as it were! Thanks for sharing!

Brian [C):-)]

Thanks guys! I guess this is something of a 3 ft model… from 3ft away it looks great! hehe

Brian, this kit actually isn’t bad at all. It’s Revell’s new tooling in 1/48th. I highly recommend it, especially for a beginner. Low parts count and decent fit (and ease of assembly) add to that fact.

Jon, thanks. I cut the ailerons off and glued a piece of PE fret in there to make the ailerons flexible. works pretty well, I think.

Thanks again everyone. Revell scored a winner here. You should go out and buy one! It’ll only take about 10 hours (probably less).

Max, that is a good build. It looks fine. Nice detailing on the cockpit and the offset ailerons are a nice touch.

Cheers,

Eric

[#ditto] Looks like a good one to me[tup] Well done!

well, it looks quite nice to me. I’d be happy if my real deals looked as nice as your practice ones!

Mark

That’s a poor build? I can’t wait to see a good one! Heck, I’d be proud of that![tup]

Thanks gents!!! I really appreciate the comments. I tell you what, my oafishness passed on to other builds as well.

I was getting ready to do some paint fading on my F-4U1-D tonight, and I dropped the dang thing out of my spray booth. Landed right on the antena and broke the glue bond off of one of the intake things in the wings. So after some choice words, I glued the piece back on and made a new antenna out of a toothpick. I have to learn to be careful[xx(]

Lindberg would be proud! Like the others have said, you must be hiding the goofs becuase they don’t show up on my screen. Nice change of pace on the subject, too. Looks really well done.

Hmmm… the “Spirit” sure looks good from my chair! [tup] Seeing yours has prompted me to go on out and get me one! [;)]

Thanks Max,

Take care,

Frank

doesnt look bad at all max.
