i know this not a modeling subject but i had to do it i watch the final countdown last nite and boy did i enjoy that movie specially when the tomcats mess around with the japanes zero’s [:D] anyone seen this movie
That was one of my favorites when I was a kid! Man thats an old one.
Funny you should mention it! I was trying to think of the name of it the other day. I enjoyed it the first time I saw it when I was younger, I should definitely check it out again…now that I know what its called!
im glad u kno now [:D]
Love watching that movie… great reference too for a Navy Carrier Air Wing of that era…
yep…great movie. now if they’d only do one where an abrams tank goes back to fight the germans!!! [:D]
Does anyone else think that the ending was–off. I know, you can’t make a movie about jets intercepting the Japanese fleet right before Peral Harbor, but even as a kid, I thought how every single pilot/rio etc on that ship knew what was what by the time that storm came back.
They would not have willingly turned around, maybe the storm should have sucked them back to now anyway, but just turning around? Pah.
Our squadron hosted the F-14 guys for exercises after they made the movie. In preperation for their arrival one of our pilots got a piece of his gun film collection and had a large blow-up of a F-14. It was taken from above and behind. The light reflected off the cat’s back and you could see the wings moving and his afterburners blazing through the Eagle’s HUD instrumentation and the orange fire indicator light. A great picture.
While they were talking, the movie came up. According to the Skulls they almost lost an aircraft while filming the dogfight scene. He started the manuver too low and almost went into ocean.
Awesome movie. Saw it when it first came out back in '80 a couple of times, have watched it many times since. The only problem I have with it is that I’d rather they have let the Nimitz air wing obliterate the entire Japanese task force, which of course would have presented all kinds of interesting challenges for future history.
An oldie but a goodie! Has some nice flying and flight deck scenes.

Really liked that movie. But it did seem like a lot to go thru to getthe dog back[;)]
I too agree, an awesome movie. Would have loved to see them stick around and defeat the incoming forces before they got to Pearl, but that would mean rewiriting history. And we know, that can’t ever happen.
Another side note. Back then I was a navy photographer and in the opening scene, you see the helicopter landing, when you look between the engine nacelles, you will see our command logo from the Fleet Imaging Command, Atlantic.
Ya, it was a good movie, a fun ride…
I especially liked the “Texas Zeroes” against F-14s… Reckon the IJN pilots were prepared to fight Grumman Cats, but the Tomcat was a surprise, eh?
never heard of it
[#ditto]oh boy! u gota watch it
