Sometime ago, I purchased the Revell 1/48th scale B1-B. I plan on filling ALL the panel lines. Can anyone recommend a product for this? The lines are pretty deep, and wide. I tried Tamiya putty. Would need several reapplication to fill them. Thanks in advance.
If it were just one or two lines here and there I’d say gel CA hit with some accelerator then sand right away. That’s what I do for deep panel lines. Since you have so many I’d use auto body filler. You’ll have to sand the surface before applying the filler so it has something to “bite” to. Not sure if 220 would be too much, maybe 320. Good luck.

What is going on with that first post?
To fill panel lines I’ll use putty or sprue goo.
For putty I tryto use Apoxie-Sculpt, but it gets kind of messy having to mix the two parts and then adding water to thin it out a bit. It gets everywhere. But it bonds well and cures hard.
Spreu goo is awesome. You mix some cut up bits of sprue with Tamiya Extra Thin glue with the green cap. The glue melts down the pieces of sprue and thats where you get the name. You can spread this stuff in seams, or wherever you need to fill in some plastic. And the best part is as it cures it melts the plastic around it. So when it is fully cured it is basically the same material as all the surrounding plastic.
And then I will use Tamiya putty sometimes, but that lacquer based putty shrinks really bad, so you have to apply it a couple times.
Stretched sprue is what I would use. If you made it from the trees of the kit, it’s the exact same material glued into the lines. If you make them slightly raised when gluing in, then sand them smooth, it would be hard to tell they were ever there to begin with. As a bonus, if you plan to rescribe the kit then the material is all the same, making the resribing easier.
You mean the long horizontal text box with a scroll control? I suspect that it’s an editing control or selection that we can choose when we create a post, though I haven’t taken time to look more closely. I’ve only seen it with some-but not all-of Cbowling’s posts, too, and not with anyone elses.
If it’s a feature in the editor, then he may have selected it; though, since not all his posts show it, he might not realize it he did. Or it could be from using a device like a mobile for some posts, and the forum’s software (Discurs?) renders his post like that.
Maybe @Tim_Kidwell1 can explain it.
To the original post and question, I would use stretched sprue and liquid styrene cement. Solvent-based putties like Tamiya’s, Squadron, Vallejo, might tend to shrink as they cure. That means you’d have to make several passes.
Some might use a 2-part epoxy, too, like Aves Apoxie Sculpt or Milliput’s fine grade. But I don’t use those for filling panel lines, seams, even gaps, because I use it for sculpting and on figures.
I like using the kit sprue, and liquid styrene cement, to get a consistent material throughout.
Best regards,
Brad
After some quick tests I’ve found that if you precede your post with four or more blank spaces, Discourse will create this weird textbox. To avoid your posts popping into the text box with the gray background, just begin typing your post right away. If you should find a post in a text box with gray background, go back and delete the spaces at the beginning. I’ve fixed the initial post for this thread to look “normal.”
