Ferries - Want one ?

No , I am not going to make this a long post . Have you seen , or do you have , one or two, a Lifelike Robt.E.Lee or Natchez in your stash or built up and age damaged ?

You can give it new life as a New York Harbor Ferry . Gather the pictures and scratch build what you need and believe me it’s not as hard as it looks .The paddle wheels go bye-bye anyway .

Take Two hulls , cut them vertically at the centerline . Re-assemble and use the rest of the parts for the upper decks , with mods of course . Get a lot of pictures and some sheet Evergreen and have a ball . ! ! Don’t forget to re-enforce the hull joint either . T.B.

No…

With all due respects, I can not think of a project than construct a Staten Island ferry. Having been a passenger on this vessel more than 55 years ago, the experience would never prompt me to create a model of this most uninspiring craft. A Mississippi River steamboat would be more appropriate.

Merry Christmas and Happy Modeling. Crackers [:(]

I have nothing against ferries, and do intend to build one some day. But the hull planform of the Lee is wrong for what I want to build. I want to build a Great Lakes RR car ferry. But then, the hulls are so simple on those that it should be easy to scratch. I would make it in 1:160 scale and load it with a bunch of N-scale RR cars.

Well ;

Hi , Don , for that , you don’t have far to go . Walthers/Cornerstone builds a car float which can have upperworks added . T.B.

Having been on some Staten Island ferries - just for the ride - when I was a kid and it cost a nickel, I’d like to see one offered representing their “golden age” - say the 1940’s or 50’s. Same basic shape as the picture you’ve attached to your post but with the darker colors from the era I recall (olive greens/black/ browns?).

P.S. My recollection of the colors of the ferries must be incorrect. I looked for other colors and couldn’t find any. Such is the state of my memory banks [:$].

I had a bunch of notes, diagrams, and the like for a project–the TexDoT channel ferries

Basically, a big, double-ended flatbed with a conning tower on a pylon.

Like about 120’ long and 40’ wide. Would be spiffy scratch building in 1:43, 1/48, or 1/32

Always thought it would be cool to show a Texas State Guard until taking the ferry, with maybe one civilian car aboard.

Would be even more fun with a 1/700 Texas to set the backe end of the shadow box.
