For WW2, does anyone make a female tank crew set of figures in 1/35? My google-fu is failing me
My 1/35 SU-152 came with a female soldier. Nasty looking lady swinging a PPsH.
Is that from the Dragon Soviet Scout/Snipers set?
Were there REALLY women fighting in tanks???
I believe so. I have seen a photo of at least one Soviet WWII tank crew with a female member. The soviets also had female combat pilots and snipers in WWII. Aside from infantry, artillery, and engineers, I am willing to bet that the Soviets had females in every other branch of the army- drivers, communications, gendarmes, etc.
There is a fair amount of published data on female soviet tankers. Whether it’s accurate or not, I have no idea.
A few years back I saw a documentary about Kursk and there was a female tank commander on there. The lady must have been in her 70’s and she looked a mean old bird. She was talking about ramming German Tanks when they ran out of ammunition, looking at her I could believe it

Ah, I was wondering if you were going for the real world Soviet female tankers here or a ‘Girls und Panzer’ fantasy type concept.
I seem to remember some Soviet assault gun (ISU-152 maybe?) with a husband commander and his wife as the driver. (and no I don’t think the rest of the crew were their children!)
Two Soviet Female tankers, Mariya Oktyabrskaya and Alexandra Samusenko were recipients of “Hero of the Soviet Union” decoration, the Soviet equivelant of the Victoria Cross or Medal of Honor, for their actions in WWII.

Thanks SP, that’s exactly the photo of the husband/wife crew I was thinking about.
You might look at Aurora Model in Japan: aurora-model.jp/e-index.html
She has fantasy or what-if female tankers, mostly depicting Germans, but you find something you could use or adapt. They’re very good figures, in white metal. She also makes German women auxiliaries and other historical figures, that fill a niche in the market.
The aurora site is an amazing find. I wish I had 1/4 of the talent of the painter of those figures.
Thanks!
You’re very welcome!
If I’m not mistaken, Aurora Models is a husband-and-wife project, but I can’t remember their names. The missus sculpts and paints, and her husband also paints, I believe. They have a Facebook page, too, so if you use FB, you might want to check it out.
I wish they’d produce more figures in 1/20, to go with Maschinen Krieger subjects. But the 1/35 figures would really work in some cool dioramas.
nice find. must have!
