feathered/soft edged camo edges

I am working on my third build, F-18E. After studying pictures, I can’t really tell if the two color paint scheme is a hard or soft edge. I did a hard edge on the F-22 that turned out fairly nicely. Just not sure how to get a soft edge done.

If someone would be so kind as to point me to some accurate tutorial to paint a soft edge camo line, I’d be grateful.

Here’s the link I created for my builds. Don’t look too close: https://fletcherimages.slickpic.com/albums/F-22-Build/?wallpaper&viewer

Thanks

Try using Silly Putty. It’ll give you a soft edge you’re looking for.

Thanks. i read about that approach. I need to create a fairly straight but feathered edge.

Cut your mask from a piece of index card and raise it from the surface using a bead of silly putty/poster putty/rolled up sticky tape. Spray perpendicular to the mask.

I did my first ‘hard’ edge on a Tamiya Spitfire. I robbed my wifes supply cabinet and used Elmers low tack removable adhesive putty. Here’s how it went:

sausages applied, and tamiya tape in the gaps

Paint applied over the base

Pulled the masks and - pretty happy with the results!

The elmers low tack stuff is great. No residue, easy to use.
