Favorite Assembly

I was just thinking about modeling and how much I like to make tanks… however, I dislike modeling the tracks. What’s your favorite part of the assembly process… least favorite? For me, I enjoy researching (photo’ing) and scratch building interiors.

Well probably not answering the first question, but my favorite part of building my tanks is painting and weathering. Don’t get me wrong, I have a great time building them, but the kit does not come to life until it is painted and weathered. As for my least favorite, it has to be the wheels and tracks without a doubt. I use ModelKasten Workables almost exclusively, and for most of you who know, it can be a real tediuos job.

My favorite part is building all those neat little road wheels.[:I]
My least favorite part attaching all those tiny handles and footsteps which, if you ignore them, make the model look horrible.[}:)]

I like assembling turrets. I wish I was talented enough to build stands like we used in the armor school. I would display various turrets like they were turret trainers, with the cut outs so the instructor could teach the tankers what to do and what’s what.

I prefer to put the model into a diorama. That’s always fun. The idea being to tell a story where the model itself is just an element, not the main focal point. But as far as building goes, I hate cleaning up the wheels and I love packing in details!

My favorite part is painting the vehicle and weathering the vehicle. I like being able to use “artistic freedom” to finish the vehicle in a certain style. The part I least like about modelling is cutting off and putting on the small pieces. It seems I either break them when I am removing them, or I have problems with tweezer launch. Another area that gives me great pleasure is doing research online to find a paint scheme and or unit markings that would look good on a kit.

TWEAZER LAUNCH! Small parts kill me but, I do manage to get them all on.

My favorite is research! Planning on what my finished piece will do in the diorama display.

My favorite part of the process is getting all of the fiddly little parts in the right places - when it goes good, there is a definite amount of satisfaction. My least favorite, without a doubt, is doing the decals. I would rather sit around all day doing tracks than decaling.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a tank, but if my memory isn’t all shot, the least favorite part had to be the road wheels. Building and painting the things used to drive me nuts. Especially the rubber tires like the Panther and Tiger used. My favorite part, though, is seeing it finished and knowing the results were worth the effort.

The build … just the build. Don’t mind even doing the tracks as long as I’m building.

The most fun is when it’s a real dog of a kit and you can turn it into something that looks great.

My favorite is when I add an aftermarket piece, and it comes together with the kit. You put something there that “shouldn’t be there,” a foreign object, an alien artifact even, and not only does it look like it belongs, it actually makes the thing look better! (Hopefully.)

I like to work on vehicles I’ve served on, like a 548, 113, 577, 109A5, 992, 109A6
1074, 1075, and so on.
it’s fun to look at my pictures or to go to my track park to refference my model building from the real vehicles.
And my least favorite part is going to the field in these things and modeling the roadwheels ( I hate road wheels!!!).

i like to add accesories and place items on the completed tank.

I’ll have to agree with what Moses said previously, my armor models just don’t come alive until you start to weather them. That also seems to be the same area where you have the most artistic licence. Least favorite has to be the tracks. I don’t mind painting them. Don’t mind weathering them. But when that last individual link just won’t quite fit…

I hate to do road wheels, they are so monotonous.
I love to weather and add accesories and turn each individual kit into a diorama of it’s own.

After reading all of your responses I think we could build a pretty nice tank and keep everyone happy. I’ll start by mailing all my road wheels to tiger dude.

There are very few people who like doing the tracks and unfortunately I’m not one of them[xx(]. I like doing the figures and detailing them the best.
