Fate/Grand Order - Oberon by hacca

First garage kit of the year. I bought this kit from the online Tonamo event on BOOTH, which is like Japan’s etsy. I thought the painted clear parts on the painted sample looked really cool, and I wanted to paint and assemble a copy as well.

Temporary assembly. Pinning was pretty easy, and the collar was stuck on using 1mm magnets. The casting was pretty good, so surface prep didn’t take very long. I polished the clear parts using 400, 600, 800, 1000, and 2000 grit sanding sponges. Afterwards, I primed all the pieces with Finisher’s multiprimer. For the clothes, I also sprayed with Mr Hobby Surfacer 1500 White.

For the legs, I started painting using clear mixed with cyan. Gradually, I started using cyan+black to create a bluish black tone, with the very top the pants with just black. In the painted sample, they had a glitter effect, which was shared to be nail foils. To attach them, I used a brush with nail foils and stuck them onto the surfaces where I freshly sprayed clear lacquer. After all of it was done, I sprayed a thick coat of clear for the final coat and finished with Mr Color GX114 super smooth matte on the top portion.

For his shirt, I started with a beige base mix consisting of sandy brown, white, and black. I later used enamel black and blue washes to weather. For Oberon’s left arm sleeve, I airbrushed a little bit of black on the very edges for a stronger gradient.

His face! I used ModelKasten C-12 Mucosal Clear for the skin and Tamiya enamels for the eyes. Pastels were also used for finishing touches and gloss was added to the lips and eye area.

Overall, he was fun to build and I have another Oberon kit in my backlog which has his full insect-like coat. I don’t play or watch the Fate series, but he’s very popular among the female fanbase as the Fairy King :sparkles: Thanks for reading.

Spectacular painting on this figure. From the details in the eyes to the handling of the translucent parts.
