Hello guys, its been a while since I last posted a request for help. I’ve been looking since last night with no luck the right fuselage colors for the Fairey Gannet AS. 1./4 from RoG. Looks like a very light green and dark gray on top. Any idea on specific colors? I did tried a few color charts especially for the light green with no luck.

Generally speaking, for a Fleet Air Arm, Royal Australian Navy or West German Navy bird, Extra Dark Sea Grey (BS381C 640) upper, over Sky (BS381C 210) lower.

dunno about the accuracy of colors, i try to get used colors, for the grey mixed the humbrol 77 with few drops of 144 , the light grey is the sky light grey (22? … don’t remember) that seems have a very little tendencies to light light green. Check on the workbench for the exatc number
bsyamato: Your model (nice build BTW), showed up in my searches last night. 1 of my LHS carry Humbrol paints, but if I can go with acrylics it’ll be better to me.
Phil: I’m trying to decipher those colors in Tamiya, Acryl or Vallejo.

For Tamiya, you’ll have to mix:
Extra Dark Sea Grey – to 50 parts XF24, add 6 parts XF2 and 3 parts XF8
Sky – XF21 is too dark and too green, but some folks like it out of the bottle. Try adding a few drops of white and a drop of blue (XF8)
Sky is on my bench to formulate a real mix, but I’ve got Humbrol 90 enamel I’m using until then, which is a very good match.
If you need can check the federal standard references to compare with tamiya acrilycs but greenshirt tips probably correct. My only advice on the good revell kit is to put a “good” weight on the nose to avoud tail sitting.
Also try on the last pages of asw2 gb , dehallilland built a firefly that have the exact paint scheme used by gannet and other royal navy airplanes in the same period [Y]
I meant to add, this scheme, using Tamiya and Humbrol, are on my Seafire FR.47. It looks very nice and when I can take a photo later today I’ll post.
No real match to FS for Sky. Acryl probably does a Sky (ANA 610), but if it’s similar to MM 2049 Sky ANA 610 it will be similar to Tamiya XF21 – too dark and too green. Acryl 4748 Duck Egg Blue looks closer (lighter and bluer) in the jar, but I haven’t used it, yet.
EDSG is sort of close to 26118 “Gunship Gray”, but in my opinion (just that) 26118 is too green. EDSG faded to a blue-gray in service. If you want, Acryl 4752 is supposed to be FS36118 (not a smooth finish), but again looks too green to my eye.

Sorry for the delay guys, last week and weekend was hectic up here. Thanks so much for you pointers. I started the model last night (Tuesday). Step 1 on the assembly has a mistake, part 6 goes where 7 should and viceversa. Dry fit on mayor parts is very good but for a new mould, I’ve seen older Revell kits with less flash than this one does. As for the color, looking at the lower side, it looks like a pale/minty green. I’m starting with MM Acryl RAF SKY TYPE ‘‘S’’ ANA 610 (4840).
I’ll take over from there and mix accordingly [;)]

don’t remember flashes on my copy, had some little piece break for the too little box revell choiced for this kit [:XX] not perfect fittings i found between the cockpit walls and the fuselage walls, don’t forget a good weight on the front [:D] have nice build

I’ve spent some good modeling time cleaning flash especially around small parts. Besides that, I can’t complaint so far. Thanks for the reminder on the nose weight.
What color did you used on the wheel wells and under belly? Its a bit confusing. I saw some pictures of the real thing (a restored one I believe) and it does look like a very light gray (34495) came to mind when I saw it.

Me too had lots of confusing with wells colrs, from factory seems in the same camo light grey and on others repainted in aluminium , no specific pictures of german gannets on duty i found but restored ones looks aluminium ,so i chose it [:(] the same light grey on the survivors seems really lighteen during years.

If I may make an observation, you have dropped both ailerons. Normally they will operate differentially, one side up, the other side down.
bsyamato, I guess I was 1gm less to have a tail sitter [:D] This thing needs as much weight as possible.
Phil, thanks for looking and bringing that to my attention. I’ll take care of that during the day. There might be more errors. I don’t know if bsyamato and others share the same sentiment, but the instructions from this kit screams for a revision.
