Hi, i just found a Model Master´s paint named Faded Olive Drab, i dont have the bottle handy so i dont know the number code, but anyway my question is, how would you mix this paint?? lets say you are building a B-24 and you want to use this paint, so you will have a faded upper sides and you will need a non so faded surface, this not so faded surface… what paint would you use??[:D]

There is a BIG contrast between MM’s O.D. & Faded O.D. If you look at the pics of the interior of my B-29 (titled "A Wash & a Drybrush Later), you’ll see both colors. In the top pic, the seats & the large tank on top in the back of the compartment are painted O.D. In the pic with the beds, the blankets are Faded O.D.
I would suggest painting the surfaces that won’t be faded first. Then, mix a little Faded O.D. in, till you see a change, then spray that color. Keep adding more Faded O.D. until you reach the lightest shade you want in the places you want. To make it convincing, a gradual change can be very effective. When the contrast between light & dark are great, it looks like two-tone camo. You can even go back over it with the unmixed colors, using light misting coats. This will tie the two colors into a gradation of colors, rather than two areas of different colors.
The fabric of the control surfaces are usually a lighter shade than the surrounding metal.

I may, true to my pattern, have been the last among us to discover this, but I got hold of some of these little 5/8 oz. plastic squirt bottles of acrylics titled “The Color of Eagles Toned Down Aircraft Colors” and I am absolutely hooked after only four colors. Can’t wait to get more. To the point, they make a great color called “U.S. OD 41 Faded.” I checked it against a period OD 41 paint chip in the Monogram guide and it is exactly the same color, only faded, just like the bottle says. I also have the COE U.S. Orang-Yellow for those between-the-wars wings, and it, too, matched the 1930s chip, only a tiny bit lighter for scale consideration, and it’s going straight onto my F3F-1. I have mixed feelings about the plastic squirt bottles. They help keep down waste, but you can’t just slap an airbrush cap on them and spray. Though they recommend thinning 10-15% with distilled water for airbrushing, I find them plenty thin enough without. Still, it is more economical if you can cover it with diluted paint. If you haven’t tried it, give this stiff a shot. Great tire black/gray color too…
