Fa 223 "Drache" (pics)

Now for something completly different…this chopper certainly meets that theme. This helicopter was developed after a good deal of testing with the aircraft being tethered to a tie down bay. It soon won the interest of the Army and Navy and used for cargo, rescue services and even for anti-submarine missions with 500 kg bombs or depth charges. After the war the Fa 233 was brought to France and then to Great Britain. In 1945 it became the first helicopter crossing of the English Channel. This model is a 1/72 from HUMA Modell made in Germany.

Post war production: 2 Fa 233 completed in Czechoslovakia and production of an improved variant in France and designated SE 300.

I built OOB except for some of the pieces of the steel outriggers which I thought were too thick. I replaced them with some E-Z line that looked much better. Other than making me almost blind it was an enjoyable build.

Looks good to me. It also looks like it may have been the first “gunship”. [tup][tup]

Nice job on an interesting subject. I love seeing out of the ordinary stuff on here. The usual (Hueys, Mustangs, FW190’s, Bf109’s, Corsairs, etc) stuff gets old. [tup]

Looks great. Good job on an interesting subject.

Thanks Ben and Gino…I appreciate the good words. Glue your brains out…(trying to glue mine in). [4:-)]

[:)] great work on the kit, looks real good. roy

Great build of a very unusual helicopter. That cockpit glazing must have taken you some time to paint, but you did an excellent job.

I think a certain Alexander Mil might just have seen this and thought,“mmmm…I can build one of these but 10 times bigger…!!!”

Thanks for posting.
