Hi folks. Hope you are all looking forward to the weekend.
I just got a 1/48 Fuji F86D model but without decals (bagged kit). I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on which decals (AM) are the best for this particular bird. I have seen a bunch of Eagle Strike and Superscale ones, but it’s hard to see the details from a thumbnail. Any advice appreciated.

I’d probably go for the Eagle Strike decals, just be sure which sub-type you have.

Thats a great resource, thanks. My only issue is that the kit is a bagged kit, and 90% of the instructions are in Japanese, and it doesn’t list the exact variant in English. It has extendable leading edge tabs, and can carry 2 drop tanks. It’s really hard to tell them apart visually
The number it lists in the illustration of what the markings that originally came with it are wrong. The original decals woulld have been for ship FU-227, which is actually an F86A-5 belonging to “Silver Sabres” aerobatic team, 335th FS, 4th FG, USAF. So that clue is a dead end lead. I think it MAY be an F86D-25 because of the drop tanks, but I’m not 100% sure. Any suggestions?

I remeber the Cutting Edge decals being truely outstanding. My father did all 9 aircraft in all the sets and they came out truly stunning. Many of them had really cool nose art too. Here’s a link to get you started Good Luck:

Check for the parachute housing just above the exhaust, at the base of the vertical stabilizer. It has a roughly triangular cross section and would probably make it a D-45 or later. If it has a rounded boat tail it’s an earlier model, maybe a D-35. *Any chance this is a bagged kit of either the Revell or ProModeler kit.
*I just checked it looks like the Fuji kit is a reissue of the Marusan F-86D in 1/50. So any decals you pick up are probably going to be slightly oversized.
I think it’s a -45 or newer. Here is a scan of the only whole aircraft shot on the instructions. Let me know what you think.

Sorry for not getting back to you yesterday, I believe your right. It looks like the drag chute housing at the base of vertical stabilizer. The “JASDF Nortah American F-86D Sabre Jet Figter” on the instructions is great!

I sent you decals for the kit. Did you check in between the 2 taped pieces of cardboard that were in the box? Thats where I put the decals so they wouldn’t get bent. Those decals were made especially for that kit.
John
Just found them. When I opened the box, they were upside down so I didn’t see the post-it note. I thought it was just extra stiffening for the kit… lol Thanks for letting me know. Now I’ll have a spare set. lol
