1 word I can say about this site is " WOW "

Bud

i must say that the rebuilt one of Ike Kepfords plane is absolutely beautiful

Nice link Bud… thanks. Bookmarked for the eventual Corsair build.

Cool, thanks Bud. Allways in need of corsair refrences I is.

Thanks Bud. Great reference shots. Clean looking rebuild too. Pity he couldn’t link a sound bite to his flying pics though.

WOW is right. Thats the most perfect looking plane I have ever seen. The cockpit is emaculate!!

Thanks.

I used that site extensively when I designed my 1/8 scale Corsair cockpit kit. I really like the pictures of the unrestored cockpit, the new one was modified and had all that ugly new paint. My cockpit is entirely vacuum formed:

I used Model Master Acrylics and made my own decals. Only used the Tamiya Yellow Green for weathering.

Thats a nice looking kit you have there. But Im not sure I agree with your"ugly" paint observation. It might not be 100% correct but it does become a need to change things sometimes on a plane that will be flying in modern airspace. Anyway I do like your kit, lots of details, and working lights.

Thanks. I prefer factory fresh restorations, not what was done on that plane. When I come across the pictures of a Corsair that is restored with all of the flat green sink chromate and factory paint job I’ll post them. That’s just my personal opinion, but I respect yours to modify the planes to be shiny and clean with the wrong colors and a phony looking paint job. The 29 color scheme is way over done and when you do it wrong it is even more annoying to my eye.

I think that alot of times the folks doing the restore opt for a color thats easy to find in case they need to re-do anything. Also, the gloss option is easier to keep clean and use for trouble shooting leaks.

Yea, those are all considerations for sure. It’s thier plane, so they can do what they want! I just don’t like it is all, same with cars though. I like full factory restorations, not shiny black or colored frames.

I build my models war weary though! Here is my RC 1/8 scale Corsair, much harder to keep clean with the flat paint, but I think it looks better!

Now thats a good looking model. I like it alot. Very nice!

I agree with you on the gloss paint on cars ( I have three antiques) Shinny is easier to clean and it gets peoples attention. Poeple like shinny, even if it is wrong.

I know the gloss covered corsair is not correct but it does look good. There is a guy here in town with a YAK 9 who painted his in gloss paint also. I still looks good and saves hours of time when it comes time for an airshow. Gloss also stands up to the weather better, so I see why they do it.

I want one NOW NOW NOW NOW and did I say NOW yet hehehhehe

Bud

Speaking of Corsairs, here’s the one from the Lone Star Flight Museum at the Wings Over Houston airshow last weekend. Nice and shiny.

Eddie

Nice Pics.

I would love to be that close to a Corsair.

Bud

Shiny is correct for later Corsairs, glossy sea blue to be exact. Started early in the F4U-1D production run. Shiny Zinc Chromate? Yuk!

Bud, I agree WOW!!! Beautiful and sexy, gorgeous, they just don’t seem like good enough words. That is one incredible looking Corsair. I think I am in love!

How about that first engine start video?

Yes that was cool and the wing folding up

I don’t know what it is about the F4U’s but you gota LOVE them. I know I do " hunny move over I am bring my Corsair kit to bed with me" LOL

Bud

Lol! Don’t let her read that post, buddy!!

The perfectly done inaccurate restoration looks great on a full scale plane, but I would not build a model of this particular plane. Military aircraft that look like that as models tend to look like toys, they don’t look real. A military model has to be dirty! Like I said, the site is a great source for adding detail, especially the early pictures of the unrestored cockpit. The plane does look great and it’s up for sale, $2.5 million dollars! Get yours today! lol
