Tamiya now makes a F4U-1, F4U-1A and F4U-1D in 1:72. I personally feel these are the best engineered kits of the corsair. Very well molded with nice detail. They have the best cockpit and engine detail by far (even in :72 scale). Because they are engineered so well, they build very easily. Italeri/Revell are basically the same molds. They make a -4B and -5N, and they are “fair”. Some cruder moldings, and are somewhat inaccurate around the canopy and front fuselage (especially on the -5N). Cockpit detail is basic (but there are many after-market cockpits out there). They are generally 1/2 the price of the Tamiya kits. They still build up to decent kits with a little work. In 1/72, Tamiya rules. Their recent release of the birdcage is awesome.
