Hey i’m building an F4U corsair and i’m going for some nice detail, w/o overcrouding it and too much scratchbuilding. I have a very nicely detailed aftermarket resin engine left over from a precious model (which i have made major surgey to my aircraft to inclue it in) but i just want to know if anyone knows about any good after market accessories or details i could use for the cockpit, seeing as the kits one is very crappy. I can upload pictures of the progress i have made so far, but if anyone has any ideas or nice refrence photos ot anything it would be much appriciated. Thanks in advance!
What scale?? There are lots of AM stuff out there from pits to wheel wells, just depends on what scale your modeling…Harv
Would help to know the scale & manufacturer of the kit. There are a lot of Corsair kits on the market.

Google Image is your friend…

As for what details to build or buy, you need to come up with a scale and which model of Corsair, F4U-1, F4U-1A, -1D, -4, etc that you’re building…
Right sorry. Forgot to add the scale. Sorry. Its a 1/48 F4U-1D Corasir by Academy. Its not the greatest model, but hey, i’m doing my best with it >.<
Is the resin engine a P&W R-2800 radial? That’ll make a difference…
Can’t help you with the other stuff since I scratch-build my detail parts rather than buy them…
Yeah its a P&W R-2800 and i’ve done a bit of scratch building, but i’m not very good at it [sigh]
So i found a resin cockpit on sale, while i was buying some aluminium piping for the engine rack, and i decided to buy it. heh, so now i’m completely redoing my cabin. I can post pictures later if anyone wants.
Yes, please post pics!..Harv
Okay… minor setback… i won’t be able to work on my model for a few days… a week at the most (so no pics yet, sorry), cause i crashed on my bike going about 30 miles an hour and smashed up my knees and jarred my wrist. hopefully i’ll be able to resume building/ painting in a few days.
sorry,
Alex
Okay, so i’ve been working on my model for the past few days, the resin cabin is painted and installed, and i’m about to add the engine, and its coming along quite nicely (a few annoyng fit problems) but i have to ask something. The canopy in this kit is crap. It doesn’t really fit that well, and its not really clear… its got like striations in it, that impair the view inside… so is there an easy way to fix that, or would it be better to just buy a new one?
And i’ll post pictures soon (as soon as i figure out how…)
-Axel
You can buy vacuum-formed replacement canopies for just about any aircraft, including the Corsair, from Squadron ( www.squadron.com ).
Sorry to hear about the bike wreck. Glad to hear that you’re relatively ok.
Please keep us updated on the build’s progress, and post pictures!!!
Okay, I’ve been promising you guys pictures for a while, so sorry it took so long… here are a few…

Okay, sorry that last post didn’t work. Here are the pics in order…
Just so ya know, you have the “http://” in your picture’s url address TWICE in the post with the red Xs… Take one out and your pics will show…
When you paste the URL into the image block, you have to backspace that first one out.
Thanks HVH I got the original pictures working. Thanks!
