F4U-1D cockpit trouble

Ok. I’m building this corsair . The cack pit has almost zero detail, and the seat is tourture. The trouble is I can’t find a detail cockpit for the academy corsair. I would hate to scratch build, but will if I have to![:(]

I’d get a resin cockpit and sand it to fit.

hmm… I’d say go look in the eduard or the verlinden site.
then go to squadron to order it.

You might try Great Models (www.greatmodels.com) I seem to remember that they have a couple choices of F4U resin cockpits and complete detail sets.

Which kit are you building?.. I know that the 1/72 Academy F4U-1D is well detailed… or maybe is an older version…

The U-Bird had a pretty straightforward cockpit for scratchbuilders. If you are working in 1/72 scale, you can add an awful lot to it with straight line panels. it depends on how much you want, of course. There are several pretty good aftermarket cockpits, but if you have a little patience and a “Detail and Scale” on the dash four, it’s a very rewarding process. My first scratchbuilt cockpit was a 72’nd P-38. I put about 150-odd parts in it, but it took me over 100 hours. I’m telling you, though, when I tacked it into the pilot’s nacelle and put the other half on - AND IT FREAKING FIT! - it was the absolute highlight of 50 years of modelling!
