I recently heard of a new release of the F2H Banshee. A Korean war vintage Navy fighter-bomber. Does anyone have details of who and when?
Classic Airframes has a 1/48 F2H slated for release sometime this year.
And I can’t wait for that.
High on my list of kits to buy.
Regards, Rick
Already have my pre-order in at Sprue Brothers. Hope the kit is a decent one.
Most of the newer relases the put out are pretty good. It will surely be a step up from the old Hawk/Testors kit of the F2H.
Wasn’t there an old Revell banshee kit? Or is that the same old (and bad?) Testors?
It was a rebox of the Hawk kit. The wings even had the hawk logo and date stamped inside of it.
Hi,
I’ve been following this. I checked Classic Airframes web site: http://www.classicairframes.com/ and got this message: “THIS SITE IS NO LONGER ACTIVE” I guess that means that they’re out of business. I had E-mailed them about 2 months ago and they told me that they were “not planning any new releases in the near future.” This after they kept saying it was due out in November '08, December '08, January '09 etc. I suppose it was all a scam of some sort.
My only option for a good model of this aircraft in 1/48 is to either buy Collect Aire’s kit ($$$$!) or kit bash one from one of the five F2H-1/2 Testors/Hawk kits I have. The only impossible one will be the F2H-3/4…guess I’ll definitely have to buy Collect Aire’s kit for that one-it’s too different from the F2H-1/2.
You learn that you have to take anyting that the kit manufacturers say with a hefty dose of salts! Remember TwoBobs 1/48 T-2C kit? They’ve been “adjusting” the delivery date for four months now…after they charged my credit card!
Yeah it’s a real shame when a company planning some great releases goes belly up. AMTech had a line of 1/48 F2Hs, along with some P-61 and P-47 variants never done in styrene before listed in 1/48 as coming out. They even had a few test shots on their website. Unfortunately those have never materialized under another makers label like their P-40s did.
I’m suprise none of the large scale manufacturers ever made a Banshee in 1/48. I was even suprised Trumpter decided to do a Panther instead of a Banshee. After all, there already is the Revell/Monogram Panther which a decent kit for the price.
Is there really so little demand for the ‘banjo’?
Indeed! When Trumpeter started coming out with all those 50s era Naval Aircraft (Panther, Wyvern, Sea Hawk) I had hopes maybe they will pull another suprise with a Banshee. But sadly no. Hobbycraft has had a F9F Cougar on their site for quite soem time, but again, no dice yet. It would be nice to see those forgotten aircraft that did fight in wartime (unlike say another Luftwffe 46 kit) get a new molding by a mainstream manufacturer.
Hi all!
I do believe that almost all significant Korean War era aircraft have been done in 1/48th scale except the Banshee (at least in styrene). I simply cannot believe that there would not be a market for this aircraft!! Would also like to see the Cougar at some point!!

Well some of the Korean War transports and helicopters have not been done in 1/48. And a few of the "rare birds. But the situation today is far better than it was 15 years ago.
True, would love to see a 1/48th C-54 and a Korean AD-1/2 Skyraider. At least the Banshee made the No. 3 on the FSM “Most Wanted”!!

I just tried the link you put in your post and it took me right to the Classic Airframes site which appears
to be up and running. They may have been slow renewing their domain name…

Hi,
Have you heard anything more about another company taking over the 1/48 Classic Airframes F2H project? Last I heard they had gone our of business. Their web site is closed down, no way to order kits, no responses to eMails. I had ordered -and paid for a B-25 from them-no kit, no refund, no reply.
Thanks,
Nick Onaitis
