Looks like on some F2A-2’s they did away with the ant mast on the front cowl and attached the antenna wire somewhere on the left wing. I’m trying to depict this variation on my model and would like to be correct on where it was attached. Not having any luck finding photos showing this. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.
The Squadron book F2A Buffalo In Action shows a couple of pics, one a closeup, of this installation. A stub mast was attached to the port wing upper surface, barely outside of the wing gun. The antenna wire connected from there to the fin stub mast, then down to the fuselage. This was apparently a field modification by VF-2 only, to avoid vibration in the original mast. Other squadrons don’t show this.
