F/A - 18A Canopy needed...

First the pertinent information and then the introductions.

I am looking for a replacement canopy for my 1/72 Hasegawa F/A - 18A Hornet. Does anyone know of an aftermarket item or have one in their spare parts bin. All I need actually is the front windscreen half. I am also missing a couple of doors off the front wheel well but I figure I can make those up myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The story behind this is that after a prolific model building career from the time I was 8 yrs old until about my 23rd year, life (as in wife, career and 3 kids) kind of got in the way so whatever models did not get shot down out of a tree with my air rifle when I was a young teenager (yes I know - I’m a blockhead) got packed up in boxes and put in storage. I am now 40 (it still hurts to say that out loud) and recently packed up the wife and kids and moved to a larger home where the previous owner graciously left behind a beautiful work bench. Hmm… More space “and” work bench? You guessed it, the models came out of storage 3 months ago. However, during said storage and moving the pride and joy of my fleet which displays my Canadian colours sustained the aformentioned damaged. The fact that I consider it my pride and joy is odd because usually I stick to wwII subjects. Must be a national pride thing.

Anyway, it feels great to be modeling again. You have a great forum here and I have learned a lot and hope to pick up a lot more tips as things have changed a lot in the last 17 years.

Hi razordws[#welcome]to the forum.
You could try Hasegawa in Japan or Dragon Models USA for replacement parts.I imagine there’d be a charge for this service but it might be worth it. I don’t know who the Canadian importer is so I hope this little bit helps.

Welcome to the forum and back to the hobby![#welcome] Try contacting the local/country Hasegawa distributor and see if they can’t get you a replacement (for a fee). My net search has come up with a “goose egg” (zero).

First off, welcome to the forums and welcome back to the hobby ! As the Canadien tourist bureau says “come on in, we’ve been expecting you!”.

As for your parts problem, you could go through the trouble of trying to contact Hasegawa or you could just hope someone here has the parts. What I would suggest if no one here has them is to not bother contacting Hasegawa, you’ll never hear from them anyways, and just go to a local hobby show. I have seen these kits for sale at the Guelph show for 7 bucks Canadien. With my exchange rate minus the GST, PST, socialized medicine tax and whatever else they throw on up there, it comes out to about .59 cents American[;)]

Where abouts in Canada are you?

Thanks guys, I’ll try the distributors and keep my eyes open for a deal although there are not a lot of shows close to where I live which is the center of Canada, no, not that center, the geographical center, Winnipeg. Maybe I can plan some trips to Minneapolis around shows next summer (under the pretext of taking my wife to IKEA [swg] ).

Look for the Hasegawa address on the box side. Letter to them which part you need with the Part No., Serial No. and Box No. and if you can copy the part diagram send them too and mark on the copy paper which part you needs. Write your name and address enclose to Hasegawa (Japan). Then around few month or early they will send you the part you needs (If they have in stock) and they will inform you that you have to pay them by send the IRC (International Reply Coupon like a money stamp) you can find it at the Post Office near your place. I did it many times (My place is Bangkok, Thailand) In Japan you have to send the postage stamp instead of money by the cost of such part.

Hasegawa Address as follows.

Hasegawa Seisakusho Co., Ltd.
3-1-2 Yagusu Yaizu, Shizuoka
425-8711 Japan

But the person incharge is always changed. So you can write to the Manager it is better.
I’m not sure the price of IRC but last time I bought on 25 - 27 THB around 1 US$ / 1 coupon

Thank you narete, I will try and see what happens. In the meantime I may try to scratch build one out of sheet acetate as the wind screen appears to be a simple curve.

By the way, my sister-in-law is currently living in Bangkok. She’s teaching at some school over there. Aside from some culture shock she seems to be enjoying it.

Dave,

Drop me an email at hegedus@gmpexpress.net, I might have a 1/72 Hornet windscreen in the parts bin that you can have. I’ll need to check, so remind me!

Joe

Really? Wow nice to know that. [:D]How often she find you? If you need some in here please feel free to contact me. I think I can find almost all you wish and I send to you by her carrying.[:)]

Thanks Joe, I’ll send an email to you with my address in case you find it. That would really make my day/week/month etc.

Narete, thank you for your kind offer. I will keep it in mind.
