F-86H, who makes one in 1/48?

Hello gang! I just finished my 1/48 Academy 1/48 F-86F ‘The Huff’. My other F86 is a Kinetic 1/32 which I built OOB and is one of my favs. A 15 minutes drive from my home, takes me to Lakeville, MN where this F86-H is on display in a park. It is a rare version with only 475 of them built.

Is there such a kit or will I have to build from scratch? Point me to the right direction guys, you’re my only hope.

Collect-Aire has a resin 1/48 F-86H, Special Hobby did one in 1/72.

Nice…WRT the F-86 Kinetic, did you have any problems? It was a Murphy’s Law kit for me that eventually saw the hammer.

Thanks for the heads up John. Seems like they are not available but I will keep my eyes open.

Hutch:

In my humble opinion, the Kinetic F86 is a fun built. Detail x price ratio amazed me when I opened the box. I believe there’s some AM kits for it and there is also plenty of room to super detail it. My only a big grippe was the decal set. They are too thick, brittle and MicroSol does little effect on them. I painted it with Rust Oleum Fast Dry Aluminum because I found it was a better representation of AL for the scale compared to the Testors rattle can. I did not know about Alclad2 by then and I wasn’t ready for Testors Metalizers, although you can see I did used it in smaller parts like landing gear doors etc.

Esci did a 1/48 FJ-2 Fury that would probably not be too difficult to convert to a F-86H. The trick is to find one…

Stik, I have a couple of the FJ-2’s but would not recommend them to use as a basis for an F-86H. Or even an FJ-2 for that matter. Lots of inaccuracies, they tried to make that kit do too many things at once. The F-86H is closest to the Commonwealth Sabres because they both had deepened fuselages. High Planes made a kit in 1/48, and Red Roo made a conversion set in 1/72 (got 14, want one?[:)] but it would still be a long way from an F-86H, which had a clamshell canopy like the F-86D.

There was a 1/48 conversion article in FSM about 10 years ago or so, iirc. There was quite a bit of surgery involved, seems like a long, fore to aft plug was used to raise the fuselage sides.

Gary

Yeah, I remeber that article… There wasn’t ALL that much surgery, but enough to separate the casual modeler from the Real Deal… The main hassle was deepening the fuselage…

I had the Collect Aire kit for a while. Not one of their better offerings, fit-, casting-, or accuracy-wise. I’ve seen a couple built up, but they took a lot of work. Hopefully, Special Hobby will scale theirs up to 1/48 some day.

Ben

It doesn’t matter, Ben. I’m gonna build dat ting anyway!! [:D]

I figured that by the time I got around to building it, there would be at least two injected 1/48 kits available! [:D]
