There are 2 decent kits available. One from Hasegawa & one from Academy. Both have recessed panel lines & good detail. I prefer the Hasegawa kit, but the Academy kit is less expensive. Eduard has an excellent detail set designed for the Hasegawa kit, but can be adapted to either.

plus the fact Academy’s F-86 also has the removable tail section that shows the turbofan powerplant and a pretty detailed gun bay too.
Best F-86 build? North American Aviation, Inglewood, CA, 12" = 1 FT Scale[banghead] [alien]
Well, I’ve built the Academy 1/72 kit… this is pretty nice, and I’ve senn the 1/48 kit… this is really good too… tou can remove the tail section and see the engine… there must be another 1/48 kits… but I don’t know about another Sabre kit…
Pat,
You may already have this link, but here’s an excellent F-86 modeling site, chock full of information and AM product leads!

I am currently building, along with two other models that have to be finished at the same time, a Hasegawa F-86F-30, one of two identical kits I have, the other being a JASDF version that hasn’t a single difference other than the decals and a couple of dollars in price. Mine is being built to show off these lovely Hobbydecal dry transfers I have for all the various stencils, warnings and stripes that go on the Sabre,as well as the 51st FIW checks on the tail, and I am also adding a color Eduard set to it. The fit so far is exquisite, and the detail is better than acceptable. This kit is about $25 give or take a buck.
As for Academy, I dislike the way they do business in principle, so I can’t say how their kit is, since I refuse to build it or to give it any publicity. But Hasegawa’s is great, and the price difference is not very much. You can build a fine Sabre OOB using the Hasegawa kit. The Eduard set is just a personal choice because I just can’t resist putting bells and whistles on my builds.

I built monogram’s pro modeler F-86 D dog sabre and in my opinion blows em all away! The fit and detail are outstanding. You cant go wrong with this kit.
