Purchased 1/48 Monogram Kit on EBay. 1977 kit was still sealed in factory shrink wrap.
Built kit straight from the box. Painted with Model Master Aluminum Metalizer. Thanks to all who’ve posted tips on the forum for working with this paint. I’m sure it saved me from a lot of heart ache! Used Aeromaster’s Shooting Stars over Korea decal set.
Even after adding lead weights to the nose the front still did not sit on the forward landing gear.
The Monogram kit went together surprisingly well. The hardest part was filling some substantial gaps in the seams, a skill I still have not mastered to my satisfaction. I painted and dry brushed the interior and then added a little Future for the instrument panel glass. Used a sludge wash for the flaps, wheel wells, landing gear and the few recessed panel lines the kit has.
All in all I was thrilled just to be able to build this plane!
My only question is why is it a tail sitter? I built that kit several years ago and it’s currently sitting in my display cabinet on all three wheels with no extra weighting installed to the forward areas. Just curious, but you did a great job on the paint and I really like the decals.
The only thing I can think of is the engine in the back is weighing it down. I read an article online in modelingmadness.com by Lee Kolosna. He constusted the same kit and used weights to keep the front end down. I did the same without success.
As far as the decals that was my first experience with using aftermarket decals and I was very happy with the quality of this Aeromaster sheet.
