F-6A (P-51A) Tac-Recce WIP pics

Thought I would share some WIP pics of my attempt at the Accurate Minitures F-6A Tac-Recce. I got this kit at HobbyLobby at 65% off. Although it’s not a popular build, its a really nice kit. I’m trying to do it justice.

Very nice work Dave. Looks like a keeper [tup].

Regards, Rick

Justice has been done, Dave. I’ll have to pick one of these kits up. I guess is one is a Mustang fan, it’s inevitable that you’ll have to build one.

Great looking F-6A…except it doesn’t realy look like a German bomber to me…(GB realted inside joke).[:D]

Nice one Dave. The yellow stripes and red outline on the S&Breally catch the eye.

Great work so far, the instrument panel I love. You did it justice and then some. Great Job. Please post more WIPs as work comes along.

David

Fantastic looking build!. Very nice office, and nice exterior work too. Can’t wait to see the final pics.

Thanks for the comments guys. Sorry the pictures aren’t that great. Besides the depth clarity problem I can’t seem to solve, the lighting made that last pic look a little out of color also. I’m trying to get better with picture taking, but I’m having trouble with my little Canon A80.

Now comes the weathering, lets see if I can do it justice.

I noticed I forgot to install the gunsight… I’ll have to pry off the middle part of the canopy later and install it. Luckily the canopy is in four pieces. I think it’s absolutely inevitable that your gonna totally screw something up on a build. lol

Oh, here’s a little “Did you know” about the P-51A. It originally came with 2 .30 machineguns mounted in the nose under the engine. I did not know that before doing research for this plane. They typically, if not always, got removed in the field due to the ineffectiveness of the .30 at the time and for logistic reasons. Interesting.

Actually what you’re building is a P-51 (no letter). That bad boy came equipped with the 20mm cannons. The P-51A was essentially the same bird, but it had .50 cals in place of the cannon. The early plane you’re referring to (with the .30 cals) was actually built for the brits and went under the name Mustang Mk. I. The Mustang Mk. IA was the same as the P-51. Have I confused you yet?? The build looks really nice. Your paintwork is very smooth and the whole thing looks very well done. Congrats!

He is right about the F-6A. I believe some were used as reconnaissance and designated as the F-6A. But I do think you are right that it was just simply the P-51.

The easiest way to get better pictures is to take them outside during midmorning or midafternoon, and if you luck out and have a partly cloudy sky that does wonders.
