F-51D Mustang 67th Fighter Bomber Squadron . . .

I have this kit on the bench now. I have been wanting to do a Korean War Mustang for some time. I did some research on General Daniel “Chappie” James and discovered that he flew with the 67th FBS for a while in Korea. So I pulled this kit out of the closet the other day and got to work. I am also entering uncharted territory for me, using P.E. I bought the kit at a show and in the box was the Eduard P.E. set for this kit. I labored for several hours getting all of the P.E. in place and I’m pretty impressed with the look. When this build is finished I’ll certainly leave the canopy back so we can see all of the work that went into the interior. Another first for me.

Very nice start in the cockpit! I’ll definitely follow along on this one. I have a once removed connection of sorts to the 67th in Korea, so any of their subjects interest me.

Thanks, Stikpusher. “Chappie” James was still on active duty when I enlisted in the Air Force in September 1966. The Tuskegee Airmen have always been heroes of mine so this build is very meaningful for me.
