Hi All
I am a retired Navu Gunner (started in 1980) and worked on everythin from F-4s to what are the Navy is flying today (except fpr helos). Sadly I am chronically ill and I know my building time is running short and I am trying to build all the aircraft I have worked on in 1/72 scale. I have had no problems locating any except for the Phantom. Any suggetions. Please keep in mind I pretty much build OOB due to cost.

Sorry to hear about your health problems.
I believe you should try to search the internet a bit harder - a 1/72 Phantom isn’t very hard to find. While all the kits have their problems, I’d like to recommend the newer Hasegawa Phantoms. I say newer, because they issued two separate families of kits - one time in the seventies, and one time in the nineties. While the older ones are OK, the newer are much better. You can get them in many versions - B, C, D, E, EJ, J and others. Of course there are also other manufacturers - Italeri, Monogram and many others. It’s good to read reviews for the kits on the net, to see what you get in the box. Anyway, good luck with your build and have a nice day

Fujimi also did a nice series of Navy F-4 Phantoms, as well as A-4s and A-6s in 1/72nd scale.

I know what you mean. I used to work for McDD in St. Louis and in the earlier years the Phantom was ubiquitous in that location. I am in the midst of doing a collection of all the Mac fighter planes, in 1:72 scale. For the Phantom I wanted to build the F4b, since it was the big presence there when I started but I have been unable to locate a kit. I guess I will have to build a later version, but even having a hard time finding a good kit of one of those. I did happen to find kits for the F1H, 2H and 3H

Try searching on Ebay for the old Monogram 1/72 F-4J. This is a really nice kit with a great pit and very easy to build. I did this one not too long ago as a straight OOB build and I was really impressed with it. All the best to you.
I did a serach on ebay.com and there are three pages of F-4J in 1/72 scale. There are two of the Monogram kits, and a bunch of academy kits. my search parameters were “F-4J 1/72”. Found some on Amazon too.
