Greetings all,
I know, I know I have two other builds going so why not add a third? lol Seriously, this particular jet found me so I am not to blame here.
So I have a question in regards to the aftermarket decal availability of this particular "Fightin Omar’s " 18 which is in the Flanker scheme.
I did my due diligence in researching and the only decal sheet(s) that I came across were from Fightertown Decals and an unknown sheet from China.
From what I gather, it appears that the Fightertown decals are out of production and the ones from China, I’m going to count them out.
Furball has a sheet that includes two F-18s with a similar scheme but the markings are not correct for this bird.
I figurred I’d piece meal the decals with what was mentioned above but that’s a hard no.
So with that being said, do they make modern day mask stencils for the jets that include the stenciling as well as for the Marine/Navy lettering?
I am sure by now, a lot of people here know me, what I build and my interest(s).
Well this is another gem.. This is the only Fighting Omars line jet that is marked as “Marines”.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Hey CRM,
The Omars are known for their Splinter and Flanker schemes.
This particular jet is in this one aggressor book that I have and this post was more so geared towards the decal side.
Unless thats what you were referring to by reference Flanker schemes?
Since there are no aftermarket decals out there or even a few different sheets where I could piece meal em, I’ll resort to making stenciling for all the markings!

What scale is your model? The Amarilo USAF font is pretty darn close for the Marines and Navy text. Should be able to download it from free font website.
It’ll be in 1/48th scale. I came across that font at some point in tje research and yes,.I agree, it is definitely close.
This will definitely be an adventure for sure!

Aside from going into uncharted territory and making my own masks, the “Marines” was still bothering me.
The Omars are a Naval Reserve unit out of Virginia so seeing Marines had me thinking.
Initially, my mind went right to these guys because they are known for their splinter and flanker schemes.
I should have done a more general search in the beginning so I blame not having coffee for that.
Anywho, back in 2015, this airframe was transferred to the NAWDC(Naval Air Warfare Development Center) out of NAS Fallon.
So my original photos are from cica 2018/19.
Hey Eric,
This is definitely a cool jet and the reason why it caught my eye!
Ugh, sadly there are no decals in the aftermarket world for this F-18.
So I will be turning to making my own stencil masks.. Fun joy!!
Happy Modeling,
Mike
