F-16A Thunderbird detailing tips anyone?

I’ve got a Falcon here that’s THIS CLOSE {} to being done, but I have a few questions for any of you that may have already built one of these puppies…I know that port and starboard running, ( or are they ground? ) lights exist aft of the intake opening parallell with the front landing gear. Of all the photos I have here, I don’t see any other running lights…this is an “A” version…does anyone have running light info for this baby?

Also, I have a MM enamel called jet exhaust, but it don’t do any justice to the inside of the exaust nozzle. Anyone got any ideas how to paint that area to make it more realistic?

This thing has a LOT of recessed panel lines…I was fooling with the idea to pencil them in…it would be my first time doing that on a painted fuselage…I did it with the 1st kit I built back in Sept that I didn’t paint…donno how it would look on a white T-Bird.

Manoman, I am in LOVE with the T-Bird and the Blue Angels PHANTOMS!!! Holy It-shay, Batman! They are GORGEOUS PLANES!!!

This here forum is the greatest thing since LSA!!! I’ve learned so much and made new friends…gotta love it!

Can’t help with the running lights. But, I use Floquil Grimy Black for the interior of the AB cans. It’s a very dark grey that matches pretty close too that sooty look. I’ve also used MM Gunship Gray when I was out of Grimy Black but it doesn’t look quite right. I agree with you about the Phantom, but I also like the BA Hornets.

Forgot to mention that you can find the Grimy Black at most well stocked model railroad shops.

I have just looked through a group of pictures of T-Bird F-16s and there appears to be a white nav light on the top of the fin in addition to the red and green lights on the sides of the air intake. Go real easy on the panel lines. The maintenance folks don’t let any oil, grime or other crud build up in these areas, so they would just be white recesses. The lines along the edge of the control surfaces would be somewhat more pronounced. Highly emphasized panel lines such as seen on some combat aircraft, would be totally out of place on a T-Bird.

on the F-16’s the light on the inlet are call Navigation lights, the plane has 2 set of side markers and 1 tail lights, the locations are for the left is the left side of the inlet, and on the left wing just inside of the missle rails (on the kit it’s the square thingy betwen the wing and missle rail), and basicly the same on the right, as for the tail light it is located just below the RAW antenna (the square thingy) on the main base of the vertical stabalizer just above the “Turkey Feathers” or engine exhaust cone
