I’ve been toying with the idea of getting an F-16 to add to my growing stack of “models to do”. I’ve narrowed down the scale to 1/72; just need your input for the rest. What do you think is the best 1/72 Falcon in regards to detail and will be built Out of the Box? Thanks!
Try this!
Based on the reviews I’ve read, the new tool Revell kit is “the” kit to get now in 72 scale. However, you will still be pleased with the results of the Hasegawa kit as well.
That’s my understanding too. Here’s an FSM workbench review from Nov. 2002:

Regards,
Thanks Gents! I’ll keep an eye out for the Revell and Hasegawa kits.
Run into a dilemma…went to a couple of LHS and no 1/72 scale Falcons to be had. Did find an Academy 1/48 Falcon for under $20, but didn’t get it yet. How is the 1/48 Academy kit? Couldn’t remember the exact markings/squadron, but the tail had red and white horizontal stripes covering the entire tail. Appreciate any info. Thanks!
P.S. - They also have a Hasegawa 1/48 Falcon. Depicts the 35th FW (Tail code WW) out of Misawa, Japan.

Last I heard, Hasegawa had the best Vipers in 1/48.
I have built a couple of the 1/48 Hasegawa F-16 kits and they are good. I did add a resin seat and a few other details, but that is not necessary. Here is a pic of it. Those are the kit decals for the Arizona ANG.
So far for 1/48, it’s Hasegawa 2, Academy 0. Has anyone built or seen the Academy kits?
The Academy kit number I saw at the LHS today was 1688.
Yeah, I agree that the Hasegawa and Revell Block 50/52 F-16s at 1/72 are the best in the market. I also read in a review that if you would like your panel lines to be deeper (say for applying washes), then the Revell kit would do. Hasegawa’s lines are also recessed but a bit more shallow as are those of their 1/48 kits. Otherwise the detail and craftsmanship of the two kit brands are the same.
The Academy 1:48 F-16 does not have a lot of details.
Thanks Everyone! Looks like I’m rollin’ in hot on the 1/48 Hasegawa F-16 tomorrow.[:D]
Pulling off target (LHS) and walked out today with a 1/48 Hasegawa F-16…[:D]
