Has anyone bought or built both the Revell F-15E AND the Hasegawa F-15E? I just bought an Eduard exterior detail set for the Hasegawa bird for dirt cheap and was wondering if I could use it on my Revell bird.I would rather do that than have to fork out the $$ for the Hasegawa.Just wondering…many thanks in advance.[:D]

I’ve got the F-15E kit in mid build and I have to say it’s a beautiful kit. The moldings are fantastic-better than the Academy F-14A I am working on. Build it- you’ll like it.
The Revell/Promodeler F-15 is arguably the best kit available, so I’d build it. I haven’t seen the Eduard fret, but I would guess much of it could be used.
Regards, Rick
Thanks for the response guys.
Armorman: Are you referring to the Revell kit or the Hasegawa? I have had this kit for a while, but I just open the box ,look at it, then put it back.
Rjkplasticmod: I figured i probably could use it anyway, but I havn’t even seen the Hasegawa kit outside of the box. That is why I was asking was to see if there was a huge difference in the way the kits were molded.
Thanks alot for responding so quickly…

I built the F-15E awhile back (Revell)
I haven’t seen the other one, the local Hobby Shop around here carries about 4 models tops…lol
I’d suggest the Revell…I know it’s an awesome kit, i built mine from stock, and it looks like i spent a year on it…
I appreciate your opinion DoWBaseball, I guess I will have to build it as soon as I can.I have heard nothing but good things about the Revell kit so I guess I can’t go wrong. Thanks for the input.

How big is the 1/32 F-15?.. Does anyone have any pics of one, that they can show… Something put next to it for reference!

Hmmm…not sure about the size of the finished product but if you check out this link it might give you an idea of the size:

Sir A68,
I am building the Mono-Rev F-15E right now. I have the kit with all of the bombs in it. I am doing an F-15E from the 336th Rocketeers which were based at Al Udeid during Operation Iraqi Freedom. I also have the photo-etch fret by Eduard for the kit. I have been doing a lot of scratch-building. I built two AGM-130s the other night for the kit. I will hang the best of the two on the jet. Took me six hours and a lot of help from Jim Rotramel to get the rear fins right. I have a lot of pictures of “full up rounds” GBU-12s, AMRAAMs and Sidewinders so they went a little faster.
I am using a number of items off the Eduard set. I have the Aires F-15E cockpit set which is outstanding. I used the Blackbox set previously which is also excellent but now very hard to find. I wish Jef would reproduce several of his detail kits (F-15C/E, F-105G, F-102 and F-106 are my top 5!). I also have the SOL AIM-120 AMRAAM kit for he F-15. They are close but not exactly right. I was around a lot of F-15s in my earlier years and have all kinds of detail photos so I will shape the SOL adapters to my references. The Eduard set will be used for stuff in the cockpit and else where. I will not use the whole set though.
My loadout is AGM-130 and 2 x AIM-9M on the left wing pylon, 2 x AIM-120Cs on the bottom row left CFT, an AXQ-14 data link pod on the center pylon, 4 x GBU-12s on the right CFT, and 2 x AIM-9M and a WRM 4000 pound capacity fuel tank on the right wing pylon. This was a Night Two of “Shock and Awe” (a term we never used in the CAOC by the way) load on AF88-1700. There are several decal sheets which have this airplane depicted on it.
Hope this helps. If you need more info, the Osprey book on F-15C/E units in OIF is good. Beware, there are some inaccuracies in the text though. The bombloads are accurate for the Beagles.
I have both Eduard 1/48 Strike Eagle sets and I compared them to a friend’s Revell kit (I have no plans to build a Strike Eagle in the next 10 years so I don’t have the either kit) and I can’t see why you shouldn’t be able to use 80-90 percent of the Eduard parts from both sets on the Revell kit. The colors on the interior set are really nice, particularly on the glass screens. What might prove useless (and I don’t know this for a fact) is the forward framing for the canopy, and the large metal panels that delineate the aft section of the cockpit. But then, I have done judicious filing and trimming on PE parts in cases like this and got away with it. But the color seat detail on the interior set and all the piping and gear bay interior parts on the exterior set should fit well. Don’t know about the nozzle actuators. But most of the external parts will fit a Mustang if you are so inclined.

Sluggo:
Wow…sounds like you have an awesome build going on there!! Please post pics when you get it finished. As for me, my 1/48 scale Eagle is going to be un-armed and ’ down for radar maintenance’ I have the Verlinden F-15E detail set that allows you to open the avionics bays on both sides of the nose, expose the radar and open the maintenance cover for the 20MM cannon. If you have your November '03 FSM handy, the cover shot is exactly what I have planned less LGB’s.I have the Tamiya F-15E that I also want to get started on soon, but I would like to have that one ‘loaded for bear’. I just got my 1/32 seamless intakes from Meteor Productions a couple of weeks ago and I must say that with these in place it should look spectacular !! I also need to get their AMRAAM conversion, but it is not in my budget just yet.But anyway it sounds like your the ‘go-to-guy’ if I have any questions about my project…thanks so much for the response !!
Tom: Are you interested in letting go of those detail kits? I would be more than happy to give them a warm comfy hobby room if they need one! LOL , As for the detail sets themselves, since I already had the Verlinden kit, it includes a resin cockpit along with other photo-etched goodies,so that is why I passed on the interior kit,the reason I asked the initial question is because the Hasegawa detail kit includes alot of vents for the avionics cooling ducts(?).The Revell exterior kit mainly includes just the nozzle actuators and a couple of cockpit bits. The Hasegawa kits are head and shoulders above the Revell offering.I really appreciate your input Tom,and in reality I guess you can make ANYTHING fit, provided you have enough firepower !! [:P]

Sir A68,
Thanks for the compliment but I don’t know if I’m your “go-to” guy. I can put you in touch with some of the real deal guys though at Seymour-Johnson. Let me know if / how I can help.
I’ve seen two, no, make that three 1/48 F-15E kits from Revell. The Revell Germany one, the Revell kit from 2000, and a Pro-Modeler kit that has quite a few bombs and air-to-air missiles. What is/are the fundamental difference(s) between these kits?
Hey MACooke,
I am not sure about the Revell-Germany kit but for the other two…I think the only difference between the Pro-Modeler kit and the 2000 issue is that the Pro-Modeler kit has a few bombs in it…Revell was touting that it also had decals from ‘Tiger Meet’…and if my memory serves me correctly the ‘Tiger Meet’ decals were only vertical stab stripes that emulated tiger stripes.I passed on buying the Pro-Mod kit simply because for the ‘Pro-Mod’ price the ‘Tiger Meet’ scheme should have been a little more elaborate.Just my [2c]
What’s the best 1/48 kit of the F-15C? I know that Monogram came out w/ an F-15 back in the late 1970’s and that kit stinks almost as bad as their F-14.
Is Hasegawa’s F-15C good?
