F-15E Completed Finally!!!

Hey Guys Here is the Revell 1/48 F-15E OOB. I rushed this model for my senior project so please be gentle!![;)]

Hi,

Well my friend, a “rushed” model is almost never a good thing. The most glaring issue are the decals. The left wing star and bar is backward, and you’ve got some serious silvering going on there. You always want to apply decals over a gloss coat, then matte over the top after they’ve set.

Matt Swann has a sticky in the techniques section that will square you away as to applying Future.

Good luck in your future (pardon the pun) modeling career.

Steve

Well, Modelman, since it is your Senior project, I suspect acheiving perfection in building your F-15 had to take a back seat to what your instructor had as a goal, which I expect is the attainment of some form of skill or knowledge, so you should tell us that aspect of building this model.

Except for the aforementioned decal issues, it looks like a good, clean build. I don’t see any glaring seam issues, paint runs or glue globs, so for that, [tup]

Personally, I would have made it a little more “lived in”, maybe some weathering on the top deck and definitely some color in the burner cans. I just prefer the “seen some action” look as opposed to the “just rolled off the assembly line” look.

Just a question out of curiosity, though; why would you want to rush a senior project? Unless the professor is looking for something very specific that you believed wouldn’t take much time to achieve, I’d think you’d want to take as much time as possible being that generally speaking, senior projects are worth a good chunk of the grade. Even though I don’t model for a grade, I still take a minimum of a month or two on any build - and that’s if I can get a couple of hours at night and on the weekends.

Thanks for the comments Guys. I spent 61 Hours on my Build. I say I rushed it because it was due May 24. I knew that I had to build something as my product but I did not know what, So my English Teacher decided to wait and put it off until the beginnig of april.[banghead] So I had to find a model, get it approved, and have it finished by then. Anyway, Jets are probably my least favorite to build but I think looking at this one is getting me back into it.

The reason for the F-15E is because I want my career to be some form of Pilot. Since I am currently in ( and about to be out of because I graduate on the 8th from High School) AFJROTC I went and shadowed a pilot from SJAFB. I really like the atmosphere of the Air Force so I had to do an F-15E. I was able to do a good presentation according to my classmates so I will find out what I made tommorrow.

About those decals, thanks for pointing out the upside down stars and bars, I just went to look at it. I used Solvaset but I wasn’t sure about spraying on future first. Looking back I think I will redo the same model over the summer and improve it the way I could not this time.

Thanks Again, Chris

Nice work on the Strike Eagle.

Good work despite the short time to finish it. Looks like you’re laying a good foundation for future projects.

Eddie

Thanks for the kind words Guys.

Chris

It’s OK for a rush job, but I feel out of 61 hours you could have found 1 to paint the seats and canopy. Taken a few minutes to put a little paint here and there. Payed a little more attention to colours. The landing gear should be white.

I can’t see any seams (besides the one on the canopy) and the gray paint looks even. I just wanted to say a few things but hey if I had 61 hours who knows. I’m slow. I really really don’t want to come of as being mean.

Did you put all the kit decals on?

Chris:

The nice thing about this hobby, should you decide to build a few more aircraft (which I am hoping you will), is that it’s a learning process. Even after 20+ builds, I always find a thing or two I wish I would have done or would have done better.

I think you picked a neat subject, for a respectable reason. Take the compliments and suggestions you’re receiveing here and see if you can’t turn out your next build a notch or two better than the prevous one. Personally, I find satisfaction in seeing my skill set improve over time…and hopefully you will, too.

I sincerely hope to see more of your builds here in the forums!

Chris,

This is just an idea but what about removing the decals? You can pick up some aftermarket ones and redo it, just an idea.

Roy

Thanks for the Comments Guys.

MaxPower, No I just put on the basic decals, all of the warnings and everything I left off. I think instead of putting on new decals I will just build the kit later and see how much I improve.
