F-15D/E Eagle to F-15A Conversion

Hello,

I have Revell’s 1/32 F-15D/E Eagle kit and would like to convert it to an F-15A. But, since I am by no means an F-15 Expert, beyond the fact that the F-15A does have the turkey feathers on the exhaust nozzles, I have no idea what needs to be done to the plane to backdate it. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help me? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The F-15D/E is a two seater aircraft with a rear cockpit. The F-15A is a single with an electronic bay to the rear of the cockpit. The canopies are also different with the D/E being larger in height.

Your biggest problem may be the canopy… the D and E are two seaters, and the A is a single seat. The D and E models have a slightly more bulbous canopy to accomodate the back seater.

Other than that, there is a slight difference in the shape of the fairings for the speed brake (the big rectangular thing behind the cockpit) and the wheel hubs on the main gear are different.

Revell-Monogram’s 1/48 scale F-15C is actually a reboxed A (I don’t know about the accuracy of the panel lines, but the speed brake fairings and wheel hubs are definitely A model), so if you don’t have one already, it may make sense to pick one up to serve as reference

Basically the 1/32 scale Revell “E” is a “D” model that was the prototype for the proposed F-15 Eagle Strike Eagle. Revell did make a 1/32 single seat F-15C. My best suggestion is to find a 1/32 Revell F-15C kit for the cockpit, canopy and use the turkey feathers from the “E” model engines. I am unaware of any aftermarkert parts for the conversion.

I’ve spent 12 years working on the F-15 and I am not an expert.

Good Luck

Jim

Thanks, everyone! That helps a great deal. I’ve got one of the 1/48 kits around somewhere, so, I’ll use that as suggested. Thanks again.
