Does anyone know where I can find a replacement canopy for Hasegawa’s F-15A/C(kit no. 09808) ? As most of you know it has a mold line right down the center of canopy. Don’t really feel like buffing it out.
You may not feel like buffing it out, but the mould line is there because the only way to get the canopy the correct shape (it bulges out slightly at the sides) is to use a multi-part mould… A Canopy from another manufacturer will typically be skinnier and flatter on the sides, and may not fit correctly.
Buffing out that seam is only about 10/15 minutes of light work. Much less time than trying to locate a replacement and then there’s the week or so wait for it to arive! Buff it out buddy!!!
Once I get down to the finest grade of sandpaper, I use a plain old piece of paper then toothpaste to polish it, and a clear coat of metallizer sealer…beauty!!!
I have the same problem with my 1/48 Academy F15 canopy. Dou you start with something licke an emryboard for the rought work and then progressivly finer sand paper (2000 is the max I know of) and then a pollish of sorts?
I will try the toothpaste trick first and thin maybe some metal pollish like brasso.
I can’t get Future here in SA, what else can I use on the canopy, will normal enamel clear gloss work if I dip the canopy in it the same as future?
Thanx

You should be able to get an equivalent of Future in SA. According to Matt Swan’s article,
I wouldn’t suggest trying to dip a canopy in clear enamel. If I were to try it, I would suggest trying thinned Tamiya clear (acrylic) X-22. - At least it can be easily removed if there are any issues.
You should be able to get an equivalent of Future in SA. According to Matt Swan’s article,
In South Africa look for “Mr. Muscle” in a pink plastic bottle with the “Future” logo on the bottom of the label or Johnsons “One Step” which is chemically identical to “Future”.
Hey Mate , I did read the equivalent, but allas it is not the correct stuff, it has a soapy feel to it and a lavender smell and collour[:(]
The Johnsons one step is no where to be found, I have been looking in all the dept. and retail stores.
The only stuff that “feels” right and dries very fast with a slightly tacky feel is a floor pollish (forgot the name now) but they all are not a clear fluid but rather a milky dull collour.

If future is also an acrilic, your idea of tamiya is actually a good one as it is also an acrilic, so in theory the same basic stuff. What do you thin if with and at what rate?If a problem, what do I remove it with?windowlean?

Ive done a couple canopies with that seam. I started by scraping it down (LIGHTLY), with the edge of a blade, so I could start with a fine grade sandpaper, when I finished with the red (I use the Testors sanding film/ black-course, brown, grey, white, red), I used a sheet of paper, then put a dab of toothpaste (NOT gel) on a clean rag and polished away. That should get it good enough to pass. If you still want a clear coat, I use Model Masters Metallizer sealer (I don’t know about dipping, I always spray it), just as good as Future without the two day wait for it to cure!!! Future is for floors!!![:P]
The scalpeling idea is way better than my emryboard one! Less calatoral damage.
I was not aware that the clear/future or whatever could be airbrushed on, I will give that a go,thanx
