I am building a 1/32 scale F-14 (Cats of the Fleet) to mark the retirement of the F-14. I want to have the airplane tied down to the deck of an aircraft carrier. Does anyone know where I can get some detailed pics of the deck and the tie downs?
Try “MATS”…it’s a good F-14 reference site…
You can search “photos”, and select a squadron. I searched VF-31, here’s one of a Cat tied down…

Try Navy.mil, here’s a link, enter “F-14” into the search box…

Good luck!
Mitch
Number of tie down chains to use;
Prior to launch or just recovered with engines running = 6 tie down chains (Initial)
In between launches = 9 chains (Intermediate)
Put to bed for the day = 12 chains (Permament)
Heavy weather, when you are expecting to go throught rough seas = 18 (Heavy weather)
High power, the aircraft is in kneel = 21 chains plus the high power chain.
Aircraft on jack (on board ship only) 12 chains and the nose will have a 5 degree nose up altitude.
Tie down points,
1 on either side of the nose strut drag brace right where it meets the main nose strut. 1 on either side of the nose strut drag brace on the bottom of the fuselage, just aft of the main nose landing gear wheel well. 1 in the bottom of the wing glove area, just aft and inboard of the wing glove lights. 1 on the out board side of the MLG struts (about a six inches above the tire) and 1 on the bottom of the MLG strut. 1 in the fuselage under the horizontal stab (right at the pivot poing for the stab).
Thanks Mitch…good intel. Greatly appreciated. Hope to present finished piece to CAG in late April. Will keep you posted.
