F-100c cockpit color?

Some help please lads.

I am starting a 1/72 Trump F-100c but the instructions are rather vague in terms of the cockpit colors.

I assume the tub and consoles would be the same light grey as on the F-86F ? The bangseat they say black for the frame, kakhi for the padding and red head rest. This OK?

What would the color of the harnass be and would it be a 4 or 5 point harness?

Also in most pix I see the horisontal stabs seem to always droop trailing edge down, would this be as the pressure in the controll system bleeds off?

For any USAF plane, check the USAF Museum website first for pics as a lot of their exhibits haven’t been thoroughly “museum restored” as some museums, meaning they generally have their original scratched-up paint. The museum has an F-100F on exhibit in the SEA gallery.

My “Detail and Scale” book points out the cockpit as medium grey with black panels. Curiously, there are no pictures of the seat, or color call outs, but from the portions of the seat that’s in the pictures, they look to be the same medium grey. The back deck attached to the canopy is flat black, while the deck underneath is also medium grey.

The stabilator droops, trailing edge down, due to its weight and due to the fact that the pilot pushes the stick forward to get it out of the way when getting out of the cockpit. The Air Force Museum also has a single seat F100 in Thunderbird markings on display. I do not remember if it is a C or a D. Anybody?

They have a D model in Thunderbird colors but no cockpit pics like the F model.

Thanx guys, I have looked at the walk arounds on Prime portal. I will go with the grey interior aswell on the seat frame with light green padding and a red headrest. It seems the straps were either green or I saw some black ones aswe.

I found it interesting that the intrerior frame of the canopy was painted black and not the same as the tub.

In general, after about 1955, U.S. cockpits were finished in dark gull gray, FS 36231. Instrument bezels (or panels) and consoles were usually black. Ejection seats were either dark gull gray or black depending on the type; check photos. Seat pads or chute packs varied in color as did the straps; again, check photos.

There are exceptions such as C-130s and possibly other transports where the cockpit colors were kinduva jade green for a while (maybe still are?).

The closest color is a dark Gull Gray color type.Also it is touched up by the maintenance crew almost every 4 months w/sometimes a lighter gray and it gives a streaky finish.Looks like a light wash effect.I flew the F-100c/d

Just because I flew the F100 ,does not mean I am right.It had been long ago.Pilots spend hours in the cockpits looking at instruments and outside for “SAMS”.

Thanx Silver, this is basically what I came up with, as for acuracy I am not sure, but it looks way “buzier” then my Piper L-18c I drive LOL!

Tell me, the ones you poled, were they NMF (if so pollished or just raw alclad?)or silver lacure? Did it also have the darker “band” on the central part of the upper wingskin running spanwise like on the F-86’s?

They were NMF until my last missions turned to camo.Also use any product that is best for you.I use SN’J powder mix w/testors thinner 50-50%mix as my base spray coat over testors black or clear gloss then buff in w/SN’J powder.If you do not the SN’J powder ,they are on the market of metal polishing powders that are the same that are good and even better.Then follow up w/testors Metalizer sprays for the panels.Seal w/Alclad or testors gloss.Graphite powder I often use to create burnt panels.

Remember to wear a mask or respirator when conducting this process .

Thanx, here we basically just have the enamels and the best I can get is Alclad, so I will have to use that.

I have managed to get the wings aswell as the fuse closed up, and it looks nice. The only thing I have against this kit is that the give really nice decals but not the red “compressor area” red stripes on the rear fuse!
