Estes Mercury Redstone Rocket

I recieved this as a Christmas gift in '16, and it has been on the shelf since then. I am planning a model rocket event for my cub scout pack to help the kids earn their summer activity award, and thought that the kids would be excited to see this bad boy go up along with their rocket’s!

I’ve completed the assembly of the capsule and the upper structure components, and will beventually painting them after the glue sets…

Fun! I was into model rocketry until it just got too hard to find a place to launch down here in socal. Too many rules.

I built a V2 and airbrushed it in a tri-color cammo. Launched perfect, but the nose cone was too tight or had a bad motor - anyhow, she nosed over and came back down looking totally scale and cool lol. Only would have been better if it had a scale explosion when it hit the ground.

Good luck with the project and I hope the kids really get into it.

I tried flying model rockets for awhile, but went back to airplanes. Then, Grandkids got interested, so I helped them for awhile, but they didn’t stay interested.

Looks like a nice kit, pretty accurate and detailed compared to most scale flying rockets I have seen.

That brings back some memories.

Hope you and the troop both have fun.
