ERTL 1/48 S-3 Viking

Been working on this for a while now. Glad to finally have finished. Only addition besides the decals is a Vacuform canopy. She is done up to represent VS-38, the first S-3 squadron to fire a AGM-65 in combat in 2003 against saddams yacht.

Very nicely done. Im not sure, though, I think CAG birds are usually a lot cleaner than other carrier planes.

Great rendition of one of my favorite kits. Given the time frame and circumstances (deployed to the Gulf and in combat operations), the weathering looks pretty good.

Any chance since you’re a B-1 mech that you are going to tackle the 1/48th B-1 kit?

Beautifully done, exceptional.

Toshi

Beautiful! That’s not a kit I see on the tables any more. How’d you come across it?

Thanks all, Mississippi this is one of the few kits I I had left from the early 90’s that I never built. I kinda stumbled on Tobit while doing some cleaning. I was pleasantly surprised when I found it.

Very well done! I like the Maverick load out, too. Don’t see many S-3 builds with those. This is a kit I’d like to build at some point myself.

Good looking Hoover, those portly birds are ALOT more nimble than they look

Excellent job on that Hoover!

Mike

Who you callin " Portly " ?

Funny this should show up when it did . I just found the one in my stash I bought because my Relative flew one . Not " Portly " just pleasingly round !

Great job on her, fixer! Love the way she looks.

I’ve got the Italeri 1/48th kit of this, along with aftermarket decals of the S-3 that President Bush trapped on a carrier with (forgot which carrier that was). I’ve got all the reference photos I need for it (took 'em myself). That actual bird was at the Museum Of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, FL, back in 2003, and I just happened to be visiting just after it was taken there. I was allowed to go and take as many pictures as I wanted of the exterior. Couldn’t get permission to go inside her, though. After seeing your S-3, I might just hafta get mine off the shelf and get started on it.

Again, great job on her!!

Thanks all,

Devi Dog it was a pretty fun build, I have three more in the stash. You don’t really see too many Vikings being built up. I look forward to seeing yours when you are done with her.

You did a fantastic job on this one. The panel line weathering really stands out to me as outstanding. Super nice build and thanks for sharing.

Well done. I used to see these at Burbank years ago. I think I have every version of the kit, but I have yet to build any of them.

Thanks BrandonK and Jeaton

Gorgeous S-3. Really sharp paint and detail. I’ve got a couple of those kits in my stash I picked up back in eighties I believe. May have to build one of those up someday as I sure like the S-3.

Aewsome…neat subject too. Thanks for sharing…
